Motorists to face £250 parking charge?

MOTORISTS across the UK could face a £250 charge to park their cars at work after local councils were ordered by the Government to find new ways of raising money, following the recent spending cutbacks.
 
The Daily Telegraph has unearthed plans which could lead to local authorities introducing the charge in an attempt to raise funds.
 
The initiative comes as a drammatic U-turn following the government's decision to end to the "war on motorists".

It's believed Nottingham City Council will be the first council to impose a £250 levy on local employers, from 2012. The charge is expected to rise to £350 after two years.

The cash-grabbing scheme targets all companies with 11 or more parking spaces.

It's estimated 10 million people drive to work each day.

Other councils considering the scheme include Bristol, York, Devon, Hampshire, Leeds, Bournemouth, South Somerset and Wiltshire.

Westminster Council's decision to enforce the £1 per day motorcycle parking charge means motorcyclists commuting to the area on a daily basis face a similar £250 charge per annum.
