Motorcycle theft on the rise in York

Will the local council do anything about it?

MORE motorcycles than cars are being stolen in York, recent figures have revealed.

Between October 2010 and October 2011, 77 motorcycles were stolen, whereas only 70 cars were stolen. There are almost 16 times as many cars as motorcycles registered in York.

Paddy Tyson, campaigns manager for the Motorcycle Action Group, said: “Cars are getting harder to steal, but we are still in the situation where there are very few councils in the country that integrate motorcycles at all into their thoughts. We have to battle constantly for secure parking.”

In Bristol and some London boroughs, councils have installed anchor-loops in the ground so that motorcycles can be secured to them with a lock and chain.

If you want to make sure your motorcycle isn't a target, check out our motorcycle security user reviews and our tips on securing your motorcycle.
