Jacque ... The crash that ended it all

FRENCH MotoGP rider Olivier Jacque has retired from motorcyle racing with immediate effect following a string of injuries sustained this season.

Jacque has been riding for Kawasaki this season but has suffered three major crashes this season. He made the announcement at the Day of Champions at the British Grand Prix.

"From the beginning of this MotoGP season I crashed on several occasions, often with severe injuries to my back, cervical vertebrae and right forearm. Right now I feel tired and physically diminished. I find it very hard to recover from my injuries and don't feel competitive enough to ride at top level. I've invested myself a lot in this sport, but my body keeps telling me it's maybe time to move on."

Jacque has been replaced by Anthony West, who starts his first MotoGP race this weekend and will ride for Kawasaki for the remainder of the season.

Experienced Jacque willl remain with Kawasaki and will fill a testing and mentoring role with the squad.
