Elias ... broken leg

TONI Elias, the Spanish MotoGP rider, has broken his leg in a crash during the Assen MotoGP practice.

Elias, who was lying 10th in the championship, was taken to hospital after crashing on the 14th lap.

During the crash, Elias landed awkwardly and this is thought to have caused the break. Assen appears to be jinxed for Elias, as has not completed a race in the MotoGP class. In 2005, he was out due to injury and in 2006, he crashed after just four laps.

Ducati's Casey Stoner was fastest in the first sessions, with a best of 1m38.323, with Valentino Rossi just 0.046 seconds slower in second place. Last year's world champion, Honda's Nicky Hayden, is currently third.
