Guzzi's new V7 Classic - we like it, do you?

MOTO GUZZI has just launched its new V7 Classic, a motorcycle that apes the classic Italian marque’s grand old days of the 1960s.

Using the Breva motor the V7 is said to be styled like the original bike that in 1967 was a landmark model for the factory. The first model was 703cc and came with red paint and silver panels with acres of chromed parts. In 1969 it turned into the V7 Special with increased capacity up to 750 cc.

The V7 Classic of 2008 copies the old bike faithfully including the famous petrol tank shape from the factory’s 1974 V7 Sport. The bike is being sold with a promotional price of Euro 7,990 for the first three weeks of May, after that the price will be Euro 8,300.

We like it, it’s properly cool enough to get our collective juices flowing...

Hmm. Not sure about the Mercedes tri-pointed star just in front of the near-side cylinder head.

about the same price as a Harley XR1200, but I'd take the moto guzzi every time

Will it rust to dust like the original?

It looks nice, but I absolutely hate the whole 'retro'  'classic'  tag as it's just so phoney and personally the idea of a new bike needing to simply imitate the style of the original is a bit of a non-starter for me.

The original might have been good precisely because it was 'the original', no copy will ever manage to conjure that so why bother?

As nice as the Triumph Bonneville Hinckley looks it is a pretty sad stylistic fad that does nothing to capture the genuine sporting appeal of the original.

Sweet! That is the bike I've been wanting since I was 16, only new.

The merc style tri-star is the horn the same type is fitted to my Cali Vintage

It's a good looking bike in it's own right, the only thing it has in common with the old one is the model no.

I do like it - there was a review in one of the comics this month and it was really rated... don't think I would get one, but it is the type of machine that I am glad someone is making.

Though I was having bad thoughts about Enfields for a while, until I remembered to take my medication

I like it because it looks nice.

Bikes all looked something like that when I was an impressionable oik and that kind of matters to me. That's probably why I've got the old Z550 in the garage next to the ZX9.

The main difference between that and the bikes I really wanted back then is that it will probably last a long enough time for me to enjoy it.

I still wouldn't buy it though 'cos I'd rather have a proper old one that needs looking after just to keep it going. Weird I know but what can you do?
