You let yourself and the readership down here with only half of the story ...
This proposed Legislation which would have enabled the State Government of South Australia to" proscibe " motorcycle clubs/gangs was promptly thrown out by the Supreme Court on the grounds of their being totally unacceptable in a Democracy and unconstitutional. Under these facist Laws, any person that offended the State Government (or could be described as a "bikie " ) lost their freedom of association ( in other words could NOT hang-out with their mates or even family ) and it would have been ILLEGAL to be a member of any group the State Government deemed or chose. Anyone with any intelligence can see the potential here for abuse and where all this could lead to. All other State and Territory Governments and Police Services in Australia were watching with great interest as they too hoped to enact similar Legislation. The problem with Police is that they ALWAYS want more powers ( despite often abusing what they have already ) and the problem with Politicians is that they ALWAYS want to be seen to be doing something in response to outrageous over-hyped and inaccurate tabloid crap from mass media. I trust this update sets a few minds at rest. Australia is far from perfect but resorting to facism isn't one of it's faults - despite the efforts of the unlamented John Winston Howard and jerks like Michael Atkinson whom carries the title Attorney General but is just another political chancer.
