Micron Exhaust Technologies ceases trading

Well-known motorcycle exhaust manufacturer closes its doors

Posted: 11 July 2008
by Visordown News

MICRON the well-known exhaust manufacturer has ceased trading as of 10am yesterday (Thursday 10th July).

The Micron team of over 20 staff - of which some have been working for the company for 20 years - have been laid off with as yet no offer of pay.

It is thought that Micron's parent company will concentrate on the automotive side of the business, which accounts for around 85% of its turnover, making exhausts for car brands such as Aston Martin.

Thats a shame, had microns on all my bikes till now. They did seem to lose ground to the like of Akrapovic etc as of late.

To be honest, glad to see the back of them. i know 4 directors from Micron, and they are the most arrogant individuals you can imagine.

the sales staff were patronising at best, and customer service was worse.

they recently tried copying other manufacturers designs to prop their ailing sales, but too little too late.

serves them right.

Not 'work', 'worked' (past tense) hense no, you've more chance of finding little green men on the moon!!

Unlucky Mr Wilkes.

It's always the work force that suffers in these situations.

Any chance of the workforce buying the name and equipment on the cheap?

uncle albert

Typical big(ish) business.

Note they are continuing production of the car side of the business.

Its obviously not cost effective to keep producing the same old stuff any more.

Never really rated Micron , would only have one if it was already on the bike when i bought it.

Sorry for anyone losing their jobs but as the company is not folding the parent company has a legal obligation to either offer redundancy or alternative work of a similar nature or if not possible a different nature( with relevant training) with protected pay rights for 2 years.

Whats the betting they turn the bike area over to car production and retain the workforce( or some of it) anyway

Sorry Dale!

Found anything yet?

This Brand started a revolution in motorcycling, I have travelled all over the world and found cans and systems in most countries, you only have to say the name and it's an instant talking point, this is a SAD day!

I have had most Brands on a wide range of bikes but have removed and replaced with the CRON in all cases.

This company was started in a garden shed and rose to the top  flightin a short space of time, it lead the way for a massive amount of time, other brands have tried to copy it for years.

Admitidly they did lose their way in later years but we should have got behind the brand instead of backing Russian and Italian to mention a few.

I dont think we have seen the last of the Cron!!!

Ahhhh.....

As I understand it???

All the technology and patent for the serpant headers stays in house....

Be back up and running in no time!!!

 LOL

Hope so we are getting thin on the ground for exhaust technology

Arthur Macdonald

Some of what has been said on this subject is fair, some is just wrong and some quite funny.

What on earth did Micron copy?

Who's Ron?

Exhaust Technologies Ltd has been wound up it was owned by CLF Ltd who produce OE for certain high end low volume car manufacturers. However neither ETL Ltd or CLF Ltd own the brand name Micron or the associated IP. Those are owned seperately by the Slater brothers (that's Mick and Paul), and are for sale as they claim to have had enough.

So if you want to be Micron contact Cooper Parry solicitors in Nottingham who are dealing with the disposal.

i.mcd

I work for Motad= still making exhausts here in the UK (are we the last volume producer?). In recent weeks we have been contacted by several people after can, spares or whatever for their Micron systems.

We will try our best to help- of course we cant match exactly- but can at least try to keep you on the road

I think posting contact details is a "commercial" post- so is not acceptable in a forum- but am sure you can find us

franky

I think micron lost touch with what others are doing but still charging the same amount of money for them.  Motad will be around forever as they know what bikes to make exhausts for and make them well.......... once a bike gets a few years old arrow/akrapovic stop making exhausts for them, ie zx7r/sp1 etc.
