Italian motorcycle importer and author succumbs to cancer

ITALIAN motorcycle importer, enthusiast and author Mick Walker has died after a long battle with cancer.

Walker was a former motorcycle dealer and racer, and through a keen interest in Italian machinery played a key role in Ducati's popularity in Britain.

After his racing career Mick started his own business in Ducati spares and repairs from a garden shed. Moving into a shop premises, the Cambridge-based Mick Walker Motorcycles sold bikes from various manufacturers and was an importer of Ducatis.

With 130 books to his credit Walker began writing in 1983 and was Assistant Editor of Motorcycle Enthusiast. His first book, Ducati Singles, was published in 1985.

Under the Mick Walker Racing team banner he also mentored British talent including two-time World Superbike champion James Toseland, Ollie Bridewell and Tom Tunstall.

Before his death Mick was able to complete his autobiography titled 'The Ride of My Life'.
