Mamola: New YZF-R1 as compact as an R6

Ex-GP 500cc star lets slip that Yamaha are to release the dinkiest R1 ever made

Posted: 11 July 2008
by Visordown News

ACCORDING TO none other than GP stalwart Randy Mamola, the next generation Yamaha R1 will be about the same physical size as the current R6 roadbike.

Speaking on the British Eurosport 2 MotoGP coverage of the premier class practice session Mamola, second in the 500GP class four times, said: "I know a little bit about the next R1 and I think it's going to be something pretty special. I know the factory is working on making the bike tiny, around the size of the R6 or something similar.

"Plus they have a lot of information coming to them from Valentino Rossi and the FIAT team right now which I think they would like to use."

Cheers Randy, couldn't get us a picture of it, could you?

Can't see the price rising too much.

I'd guess at £9500 tops, but available at less if they don't shift enough in the first few months
