Honda's 'My First License' event at Motorcycle Live 2012

AT this year's Motorcycle Live 2012, children aged between 5 and 11 can enjoy a free session on a restricted 50cc Honda motorcycle in a safe and controlled environment.

Honda's unique 'My First License' feature allows young people to try their hand at biking under the watchful eye of trained instructors.

The feature consists of a specially constructed street scene around which kids can get proficient at handling their bike, learn road safety and eventually receive a Honda 'My First License' in recognition of their achievement.

So it's not just a place to go to drink beer, stare at lycra-clad lovelies and complain about the price of everything.

Motorcycle Live 2012 takes place between 24 November and the 2 December at the Birmingham NEC.

£10 to park a car this year! was £7.50 last year.

Make sure you book early if your kids fancy a bash at this. Luckily the incumbent Mrs Leggy works at the show and was able to get ours on the list first thing. I saw loads of kids and dads being turned away.

Glad we did it though - great experience for them putting all the gear on let alone riding the bike. The license and photo afterwards is really cool!

My sympathies for the Honda team doing the event though - they run around bent over chasing kids on bikes all day. It must ruin them!
