Look closely...the bugger's smiling

EVERYONE'S FAVOURITE motoring writer and TV personality Jeremy Clarkson has written an account of his experience of riding a Vespa 125cc Scooter for the Timesonline.co.uk

The 6'4" motormouth decided to reveal his experiences of his two-wheeled adventure, as well as his innermost thoughts on motorcycling, after he was snapped riding said scoot by a member of the public last week. The photo, which appeared in numerous daily newspapers, caused outrage as Clarkson has openly voiced his hatred of motorcycles in the past.

Not the most pleasent article I have read from him.

Its clear he just wants the wind the bikers up.

I'm not going to grrumble too much, as he is partly responsible for the new format of TG and some of the comedy moments I rate as some of best on Telly

However, that helmet is his race/track lid and is rigged with a mic, so I do wonder if that is going to be on the next series of TG.

Someone mentioned it was going to be on the last series and it never was, but Vietnam and the US is on the next series. No one has mentioned anything about Clarkson doing his CBT on it.

The review made me laugh, which I think, was meant to, won't matter to him because if I get angry and jump on my bike to remonstrate with him, I will die before I reach the end of the street.

Taff..

I'm starting to really like Clarkson, his sense of humour really makes me giggle

the Times online link is funny,

Big_Dave

i agree that the article is funny and reflect popular opinion,

YOU WILL DIE IF YOU RIDE A MOTORBIKE..... It was the main message i got from everyone when i started to learn...

But wouldnt go back now for any reason..

L.C

I know some people take him way too seriously and there will be the odd person on here who will flame him just for being a bike hater.  He isn't.  He's just not a biker.

If you see that article for what it is meant to be, a piece of typical Clarkson writing designed to make people laugh, it is a very good article.  It's basically all observational comedy along the same vain as the type that Peter Kay is famous for.

Don't hate him for his views, he thrives on winding people up.  Just read his stuff for the tounge in cheek wit it is meant to be.

I went off top gear some while ago, as I was expecting some some serious car info/comment.

When I realised it was only  "The J. C. Comedy Hour,"  I started to appreciate it for what it is.

jigga1980

The article made me laugh. Looks like from the pic he wasn't wearing proper bike gear anyway.

If he can ride a scooter and not die then that's saying something!

You must feel more relaxed about your test now that you know you're going to die.

Don't worry John, death is just part of the journey, and nothing to worry about.  If you're bothered by the thought of dying, it's just cos you want more drama in your life. Or something.

And I forgot to say, try not to end up in my spare room when you die on your bike, cos it might affect the rent I can get from the 9 Polish plumbers that are sharing the rent in there.

Where did it say he's 7'2?

I thought it was well funny

Would love to race him on a track with his GT Ford, fast car in a straight line

They got rid of the original format for that exact reason. It wasn't exactly pulling in the viewers!

I'd say go and watch 5th gear, but they have taken ideas from the Clarkson/Wilman format and done similar things them selves. Sadly one oif them broke a leg in the process.

Whys that then?

Would be tricky as he hasn't had the ford for about 18 months.

Think his current cars are a Guiardo (SP??) and an SL55 amougnst other things.

The Ford GT did pretty well on their power lap. Its quite modern for an american car. No fixed axel or anything

I still remember one segment of the old Top Gear done by someone called Sue (something).  she had tested a BMW M635CSi with 286hp - back when 286hp was very impressive - and laid into the car as impractical because she broke a nail opening the door.....

I would love to see some of the old episodes.  Why don't they show them on UKTV Gold Plus Old Rubbish +1 channel?

Posted: 23/10/2008 at 09:53

The best bit of the Clarckson article is where he says 'He will never ride a bike ever again'  Thank God for that.  He can stay playing with his toy cars and leave us bikers alone.

We don't want (or need him) giving us a bad name as well as all the boy racers who get a lazy lob on listening to him talk bollocks.

Give me Suzy Perry any day!  Now we're talking.

Posted: 28/10/2008 at 12:01

Andrew.

i think all the bikers in london should go to the place where they film top gear for a laugh

And dont forget we have a mole of sorts in top gear (Hammond)

what do you think

Have you seen the episode of 5th gear where Tiff and Vicki test the Kawasaki ZZR1400 even though they're not bikers..... Classic stuff

TG is filmed just outside of Guildford, i forget the name of the place now but its an old airfield.

I managed to get tickets a few years back and it was a right laugh seeing them film an episode...

I think Clarkson is pretty funny, and is just trying to get a rise out of people as usual..

You must be joking!! Even though Clarkson/May/Hammond may lark about a bit, May/CLarkson's motoring knowledge is pretty damm good. I dont think Perry is in the same league.

I can't stand her on MotoGP and the BBC seem to turn into some sort of model for the advertising of the MotoGP.

Lucky bugger. I have been on the list for three years now CLosest I ever got was nearly selling a monitor to the guy who does the online and he said he would get me tickets if I got him the monitor. Never happened

Posted: 29/10/2008 at 10:07

Big_Dave

I was really suprised by getting the tickets baker street. I doing some work for BBC mags at the time and couldnt pull any strings their so i applied on Applause store and got tickets like 5 weeks later.

Just got lucky i guess... It was a good laugh, i was on the episode with the VXR monaro, Jag type R,  and where clarkson had to eat an omlette with hair in it..

Funny blokes..

Posted: 29/10/2008 at 10:23

Bobby2003

I think that is pretty funny, may be my age but i generally find all the blokes from TG funny. Not sure this is just aimed at winding all bikers up as much as winding up Hammond and May.

All very well saying he's a twat cos he's a biker hater but there's alot of people here who say the same thing about car drivers. Just that clarkson has a very public box to blow off about whatever he wants too. In his books he has a go at just about everything ever invented.

Top gear is back next week 8pm sunday and i have already set up sky + to record it. Yes it is dumbed down but clarkson takes the piss out of alot of cars the same way as he does bikes.

Clarksons a c*nt. He thinks it's amusing to write about rigging cheese wire at head height outside his farmhouse, runs his mouth off about bikers at every oppurtunity and has managed to single handedly remove road bike reporting from public service broadcasting. I'm so glad we all think he's a great guy just because he's funny and has a pop at other people too.

Give Hammond a slot reviewing bikes on the show the same way they do cars- millions of bikers pay their TV licence too, lets have some return on that- and I'll gladly record the new series.

Top gear, football,tt and police camera action.
Sum's up my viewing.
Vietnam special and the one where they glue may's cd player playing techno.
And the truck one .Hilarious.
I wish Hammond would turn up on his blade and blow some supercar off the track though!

Posted: 05/08/2009 at 08:07

Flo
Bob, I'd pay to see that . The trouble is it's all in the edit. They filmed Nial Mac warming his tyres once, then spent the rest of the day getting a stupidly expensive sports car to beat his lap time. They took a bunch of supercars speed testing and made some snotty comment about the modified cars there on the same day- without mentioning the pikey mobiles blew their premier wheels into the weeds... The show's amusing, great entertainment, but just because something's funny doesn't make it right. I could mention Clarksons vendetta against the Vectra... but I'll stick with calling him a cnut.

It is entertainment
And it Is entertaining.
And yes ,he is a cumt.
We should be celebrating the fact that he is
Still allowed to air his opinionated opinions.
Whether we agree or not.
Opinions are slowly but surely being phased out.
Specially on the beeb.
Anything that annoys the politically correct mob is ok in my book.

Top Gear is filmed at Dunsfold, an old British Aerospace airfield near Cranleigh in Surrey (GU6 8TB) and a long walk from Guildford!

If you check out their website (http://www.dunsfoldaerodrome.com/aerodrome_data.asp) you can even see the 747 that appears in the background of most of the track shots.

I operated out of Dunfold in the 1980s when we used to do electonic warfare trials with Canberra T17 aircraft on the Royal Navy Sea Harrier radars.

Posted: 06/08/2009 at 00:23

Admin
Top Gear have done Dunsfold no end of good - I bet you could rent it out for next to nothing for a day's testing/filming/snapping before they got there, but now it's a few grand a day and you need council permission too. Anyway, bar that, I love TG!

Posted: 06/08/2009 at 12:06

Why would this cause outrage?JC makes money from his outspoken tv persona and the more publicity he can generate the better for top gear/JC

Posted: 06/08/2009 at 13:15

foodmonsta

JC has always tried to cause outrage by voicing strong opions its what brings the ratings in for TG(partly anyway).

dont forget the "truckers murder prostitutes" outrage.i'm sure most of what he says is purely for attention grabbing reasons
