Honda unveil the new Hornet

New engine is among many other changes for 2007

HONDA have launched their new Hornet, which will be on sale in the UK in March 2007. The new model's major change is its engine; it will use the same 599cc motor as the new CBR600RR, but better than that, current Hornet owners - the brunt of many petrol station jibes - will be pleased to know the new model's tank capacity has increased to 19 litres, with a four litre reserve light.

Honda's blurb describes the new bike as: "Lean, mean and poised for new conquests, the startling new 2007 CB600F Hornet stands the mid-displacement Performance Naked class on its head with riveting new looks, the blistering performance of a totally new engine and chassis, and an always thrilling blast of streetfighter riding enjoyment. From nose to tail, every line and every component of the 2007 Hornet is totally new and totally geared to delivering an electrifying jolt of riding excitement that stays sharp and refreshing the whole day through."

Quite strange then, that is resembles a beefed up CBF600, a bike current owners are keen to distance themselves from.

The new model also features a low-slung exhaust, 41mm USD forks, 5-spoke alloy wheels and a revised, lighter-weight frame, helping to make the latest incarnation of the Hornet 5kg lighter than the soon-to-be outgoing model.

The wheelbase is up to 1435mm, 15mm more than that of the last version. Although this probably won't affect handling to any great extent, it may take away from the edgy ride that gave the Hornet some of its much loved character.

For those of you who enjoy their safety, there's also an ABS equipped version.
