GUY MARTIN is to loan some of his bikes, including a turbocharged GSX-R1100 to the Grampian Transport Museum in Alford, Aberdeenshire.
The museum has been closed for redevelopment and upgrades and will reopen for its 2016 season in April with Martin’s bikes as some of its star exhibit pieces.
The Martek-framed GSX-R1100 is the bike he rode to victory in his class at Pikes Peak in 2014. It’s been bored out to 1380cc, has fuel injection instead of the carbs found on the original bike and a turbo.
The turbo GSX-R will be joined by a few of Guy’s other bikes including a Triumph Daytona 675, which he raced at the TT last year, and the bike he’s won the most races on - a K3 GSX-R1000.
Along with the bikes, Martin will also be loaning out his prized 1942 Rolls Royce Merlin Spitfire engine.
It’s the first time any of Guy Martin’s petrol powered possessions have been exhibited anywhere and speaking to the Press and Journal, the museum’s curator Mike Ward said: ‘It is a fitting way to launch the new facility at the museum and we get to display a couple of really impressive items from his personal collection.
‘It is certainly the first time we have ever had a Merlin engine. And we have three of his favourite racing motorcycles. It is a pretty stunning collection.
‘It is the first time anywhere that anybody has presented an exhibition of Guy Martin’s engineering items. It is a real coup for us and the area.
‘He has done some really exciting things. He is a real hands-on, practical guy and he is quite inspirational to young people. Our young engineers are beside themselves with excitement.’
The Grampain transport Museum reopens on April 1.
