9bhp pushing 250kg in electric mode

HERE'S THE first picture of the new HYmotion3 Compressor from Peugeot.

The three-wheeler uses two separate power sources to power the front and back wheels. The back wheel is powered by a single cylinder 125cc, 20bhp single cylinder motor while the front wheels are each driven by their own 4.5bhp electric motor. When the bike is moving up to 10km/h only the electric motors are used on a stop/start basis reducing the amount of carbon emissions. The HYmotion uses ABS to all three discs.

Although this is just a prototype, Peugeot says it is using the vehicle to gauge public reaction and that the HYmotion could go into production if there's enough demand. Expect the price to be in excess of £7000 should it happen.

Still we're sure there's plenty of lentil-eating, Prius driving, preaching city types who'll fork out for a HYmotion, so expect to see them on the roads soon.

Power: 20bhp petrol, 9bhp electric Weight: 250kg

Whoopee!

The ignorant power-ranger who was no doubt forced to write the article at the end of a shotgun barrel forgot to mention a few details.

It puts out 47 g/km CO2 and does 138mpg on the combined cycle.  Range on batteries alone is 10km.  It uses regenerative braking too to top up the batteries.  It seats 2 under the polycarbonate roof, which is for weather protection only.  Aside from the electric bits at the front, all the oily bits are from the existing Satelis 125cc Compressor (supercharged), so production within 2 years is quite possible.

It also counts as a trike so can be ridden on a normal car licence - and car drivers are the intended market - yet is narrower than the Satelis (if mirrors are included) so could filter quite well.  0-60mph takes 11s, and it maxes at 68mph.

Yeah so it can't do 200mph and wheelie all day, but FFS grow up.  It's a commuter machine not a track day tool.  And it looks perfectly suited for the job.

I didn't know the MD for Peugeot UK was a member of our forum!

Get a sense of humour FFS

Nope, nothing to do with Peugeot except that I like their machines and am on my 3rd.  Nice to see the world's oldest still-going motorcycle manufacturer genuinely innovating rather than just putting a new paint job on, or wrininging out an extra 0.25hp.

There was no humour in the article, only derision, so why should I get a sense of humour?

Call me stupid, but I can see these things selling by the bucketload if they're priced sensibly.

Wouldn't want one myself (wouldn't mind a go, though), but judging by the swarms of  be-suited scooter riders I see travelling into London every day, I can see them taking off in a big way.

I reckon they should put doors on it too if the intended market is car drivers.... this sort of thing is going to come in for city use whether we like it or not.... and whats wrong with a cheap economical runabout anyway!
