AN AMERICAN motorcycle builder is about to unveil a new hybrid motorcycle that can be powered by a regular internal combustion engine, an electric motor or both together, delivering a claimed 200bhp.

Lawless Industries, in conjunction with Orange County Choppers, has designed a drive system allowing the rider to choose between the normal thud of a booming V-twin motor, or the silent whirr of an electric powerplant - or both.

The bike features a touchscreen computer control system, cameras on the front and back, and two electric motors, as well as the regular petrol powered V-twin. One electric motor on its own produces 50bhp, enough for roughly 60 mph, while two electric motors running together deliver around 100bhp. With all of the engines firing at once, the bike produces around 200 horsepower, say the manufacturers.

The bike will be shown publicly for the first time this week on US TV on 'American Choppers'.

How many riders of this type bike will choose a silent motor?  Chrome and noise is what it is all about!

Good plan, the electric motor will get you home when the push rod twin gives up.
