Fatal film footage to be shown at bike meet
West Mercia Police hammer the point home by showing 'Dying for a Ride'
WEST MERCIA Police are hoping to make an impression on Shropshire motorcyclists by showing a film featuring footage of a motorcyclist “pulling a wheelie” on the county's roads seconds before he was involved in a fatal accident.
The film, Dying for a Ride?, was produced with permission from the victim’s family and is to be shown to bikers at the weekly gathering at the Stormy Petrel, near Market Drayton.
The video shows footage of Chris Burrell, 44, of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, who was killed last June, when he crashed into an oncoming car while performing a wheelie in front of a large crowd.
Mr Burrell’s two-week-old Suzuki GSX-R1000, which was wrecked in the fatal collision, will also be displayed at many of this summer's bike events.

I had to brake tonight coming home in my box as a tosser on an R1 sped out of my village at what must have been well over 60 overtaking 3 cars (a built up 30 limit) .... these sort of people wreck biking for the vast majority. I did indicate to him that he should use his right wrist for what he was good at, but he failed to see my point (an inverse churchill for me trouble...) Sorry for the guys family and all that, but his intellect was only exceeded by his supposed riding skills. Good on West Mercia police.

Ok you wanna hear it, in my MR-2 Turbo a few years ago on my way down to Bristol, on the M** whatever, I am in the outside lane about to pull into the centre lane and there is a nazi van on the inner lane trying to pull out! So I cancel my signal to pull in and he pulls out, next thing as I go past he slaps on the blue ones and pulls me over. He's got some bird in the transit passenger side, proceeds to tell me that I've not shown him respect as a police vehicle and that he is an off duty bike cop and that if he'd been on his GAY bike he would've nicked me! WTF! Obviously on a mission to impress madam sat back in the crap wagon, he PNC'd me, to be honest I'm surprised that he didn't do me for the tints at the time, also the fact that I may have been driving *n @ b@n...cunt! West Mercia are fucking nuts, as are all the police! I can honestly say that I have escaped a 6 month ban and being pinged by one of their stupid scamera vans. My advice when the NIP comes through, move house and don't pay it! Worked for me. FUCK YA!
Seriously? Is that an offence?

Ok, apologies to any religious types reading....
Christian/muslem/buddist etc. = God botherers. Agnostic = someone who wants God to exist, but doesn't have faith. Atheist = someone who does not subscribe to religous belief. Secular atheist = someone who recons it's total b*llocks and is willing to say why.

i couldnt give a shit about religion to be honest, and not much more about west mercia police force but i can tell you this. i was no more than 5 feet away from that guy when he climbed on his bike to go and do that wheelie, and no more than 15 feet away when his bike came sliding past followed by him shortly after, and no more than 50 feet away when his bike hit, then he hit the front of the car that night will live with me forever, and if it was not for someone stepping off the kerb making him chop the throttle, then he would just have been another wheelie fella at a bike night, as it was he is a man that did not return home to his family that evening everybody makes mistakes, his cost him dearly, and was the reason i never went to wheelie school with my mates last year, and will not bother in future

FAtBoyTim - serious story and appreciate how bad it must have been - not least for the mincee. I guess my original point was that too many people make mistakes and we should think seriously about what it can do to our own and others' freedom - biking is worth so much more than a random, selfish exhibition. Lucky the poor sod who stepped out wasn't wiped too. Biking is too good to waste - let's not let the rule makers make (slow) monkeys of all of us is what I believe (more than in God, Flo) ... so please become an evangelist for OUR cause
