Ex-Barry Sheene Heron Suzuki RGB500 for sale on eBay

HERE’S your chance to buy one of the last bikes Barry Sheene piloted in GPs – the Heron Suzuki RGB500, which is currently listed on eBay for a cool £150,000.

The MK8 RGB500 was ridden by Sheene in 500 GPs in 1983 – a season when he finished 14th in the championship, which was his worst year since 1980, with a best result of seventh.

The bike comes on 17 inch wheels and four-pot front brake calipers, not the original 16 inch wheels and two-piston brakes, although they’re included in the sale. It’s also running a right foot gear change and comes with a spare set of bodywork.

After Sheene had ridden it in ’83, it was ridden by fellow Heron Suzuki rider Mick Grant, who took it to a win at the Macau GP and a second place finish at the North West 200.

At the end of the 1984 season the Heron team sold the bike and it’s since changed hands several times, being owned most recently by Tony Salt who bought it in 2005. Salt’s relationship with Michelin and Barry Sheene meant he was involved with the bike back when Sheene was racing it in 1983.

It’s most recent use has been in the hands of Mick Grant, who’s ridden it at parade events and classics meetings.

Now, who said trawling eBay for bikes is an expensive and time consuming pastime?
