BIKES ridden by Ewan McGregor on his TV motorcycle adventures are to form the centrepiece of a museum exhibition focusing on modern day two-wheel adventurers.
BMWs used by the actor on his Long Way Round trip from London to New York and Long Way Down journey from John O'Groats to South Africa will be the focal point of the exhibition at Glasgow's Riverside Museum opening on March 10.
McGregor and Charley Boorman travelled 22,345 miles through 18 countries on R1150GSes for 2004's Long Way Round, and 19,198 miles on R1200GSes for Long Way Down three years later.
Other exhibits will include the bicycle which took cyclist Mark Beaumont 13,000 miles from from Anchorage in Alaska to Argentina in 2009/10.
Glasgow Life Chairman Archie Graham said: "The stories told through the new Adventurers display are truly remarkable and worthy of their place in Riverside Museum.
"It's clear looking at the similarities between explorers such as David Livingstone and their modern-day compatriots that the desire of humankind to explore is timeless.
"We all have a goal and this display provides inspiration on how to realise it, I would urge people to visit and reflect on these momentous journeys."
