Drunk biker gets five years for OAP death

Motorcyclist jailed and banned for five years following death of pensioner

A MOTORCYCLIST who refused a blood alcohol test following a fatal crash has been jailed for five years.

Christopher Coe was more than two-and-a-half times over the legal limit when his motorcycle collided with pensioner Richard Flynn in May last year.

Mr Flynn, 70, died by the side of Queen’s Drive, near the Bulldog pub, before emergency services could reach him. Although Mr Flynn was a pedestrian at the time of the accident, toxicology reports showed he was four times the legal drink-driving limit.

Coe, 42, of Westbury Road, Penhill, was yesterday sentenced to five years in jail and banned from driving for five years, after being found guilty of careless driving while unfit through drink.

Coe was taken to the Great Western Hospital after being injured in the collision. Police officers had to obtain a court order to secure a sample of his blood to prove he was drunk.

Queen's drive, Bulldog pub, my best guess is France.

Queens Drive and Penhill are in Swindon, Wilts. Presumably the pub is, as well.

Interesting to note the contrast between this and the news item a week or so back, where a motorist was fined a total of £275 for killing a motorcyclist. No jail, no punishment, just £275. I think it was made up of a £200 fine, £50 costs and £25 compensation for the widow. Woopee-do.

It's on VD somewhere, but I'm too busy to look it up right now.

Valerie

That is a leading question, half the time the old duffers are not "allowed" to make a judgement the other half they think it is better not to fill up the prisons with offenders!

KDC
serves him right but why does he get jail for killing someone albeit whilst drunk when the old granny that forgot to wear her glasses whilst driving and knocked of and killed a young biker only got a fine?
