Drink drive limit unchanged

Government u-turns on lowering blood alcohol limit

BRITAIN'S drink drive limit will not be reduced but 'drug driving' laws to come.

A motorist's right to a blood test has been revoked, closing an old loop hole that allowed a 'sobering up' opportunity, potentially resulting in 5000 extra convictions per year.

Transport Secretary Philip Hammond could have brought the blood alcohol limit down in line European but has said the government will instead concentrate on  “greater enforcement and education”.  RAC survey data suggests 90% of UK motorists backed the lower limit.

Currently 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood is permitted, the rejected 50mg level would have been roughly equivalent to a single pint of beer or large glass of wine for a man.

New roadside drug testing equipment could be available to the police this year and subsequently backed by legislation making it illegal to take charge of a vehicle with drugs present in the bloodstream. Currently police must prove driving or riding ability has been imparred through drug use.

Scotland will reduce the limit to 50mg as soon as the bill is passed in the Scottish Parliament.

Shame, Shame on the bleeding hearts.

The sooner we get these drunken prats off the road the better for all.

Take their licences away for a extended retest and give them a prison sentance same as murder. Then have them rechecked every 6 months same as they do for the Alcys and drugies.

Drunk divers are the scum of the earth

Rant over.

What has amazed me in this article is that until now it was possible to be on drugs whilst driving and get away with it!? Where was the sense in not banning people who are on drugs and driving and banning people who have had 2 pints? Both are in excusable but surely they should come down harder on druggies than drink drivers?

Blizzard

Most people who get caught are currently well over the limit so lowering the limit won't make the slightest difference to them.

I am always surprised how screwed up the government is, they do things that most people are against (increasing duty of fuel, screwing up the motobike test... sort of springs to mind), yet when 90% (assuming the RAC are correct) of people are in favour they don't do it, they are bloody idiots.

If you want to drink, walk, bus, taxi to the pub, leave your car/bike at home, they should of reduced it so that any alcohol above the bodies natural limit is a failure, this is a case in plenty of other european countries.

What has become of the people in this world. Well someone has to go against the grain. I love smoking a joint and going for a ride - one of the greatest joys in the world. I dont care what policy makers and rule eaters say, it's totally safe. This is how to do it: Smoke it -  not a huge one, just a thin rolly cigarette size; wait for 10 minutes for the peak to pass while you have a pastry breakfast and some flavoured milk; have a cigarette - they're the best ones;  then go. Only people who; have never smoked dope; have a very low tolerance of dope; idiot overhyped types - be honest about that assesment, odds on you are; and incompetent riders - be honest about that assesment too -  shouldn't do it or should object to it via ignorance. I wouldnt know about other drugs; never tried them, but I doubt they'd work from what I hear, especially speed, which most truck drivers were once encouraged to use. Never utilise pot at a race track, totally different story. Never go at 100% up a mountain road either, but 60-70% is okay, you'll be much smoother if you find your zone. Okay, I won't do it anymore.  Sorry about the last 30 years and everyone Ive killed - apparently.
