AUSTRALIA'S Gold Coast City Council has honoured former 500cc legend Mick Doohan for his contribution to the State's road safety program, which has seen a significant reduction in the number of fatalities in 2010.
Doohan, who fronted the thought-provoking video 'No Place to Race', was presented with the award by Mayor Ron Clarke and Southport Councillor Dawn Crichlow.
Doohan said he would remain involved in safety programs wherever he could.
"I'm always happy to be apart of these programs and do anything we can to make riding a motorcycle safer," he said.
"It's important to ensure we don't get too carried away with the success, because it can change the other way very quickly."
