A MAN caught riding a motorcycle while disqualified for the SEVENTH time has been banned for 10 years.

Martin Mearns, 20, Brae View, Greenock, was nabbed by cops on a on an off-road bike near his home.

His defence solicitor, Aidan Gallagher, laughingly pleaded for leniency to allow Mearns to take up a job as a - wait for it - driver with a national car hire firm.

But his pleas fell on deaf ears as Sheriff John Herald caged Mearns for four months and banned him from the roads until 2018.

At the court hearing the judge said Mearns’ record left him with no option but to impose a prison sentence.

He said: “You have a horrific record for driving while disqualified. There can only be one disposal and that is custody.

“You will be sentenced to four months in prison, backdated to 6 June. You will also be disqualified from driving for a period of 10 years.”

We do have chavs in Scotland.

Greenock is full of them. It's got a bad crime and drug problem.

Chavs are not called "Chavs". They are called neds.

They usually get pissed on buckfast, wear trackies and carry knifes.

I would say that neds are worse than "chavs" but I suppose they're the same thing.

This is the shit we have to put up with.

(this guy is an actor but there are people exactly like that).

I think it's likely that the ned/chav thing started in glasgow.

Yes I'm afraid chavs are mere toffs compared to our neds. I live near Greenock and was out on my pushbike on a nice wee cyclepath part of which which runs through Greenock and it was a lovely day until I got bitten by an alsatian, got a puncture on broken bottles and run down by two 12 year old neds on old motocross bikes coming up behind me on the cyclepath with no helmets on. Just another day in paradise! The demise of Clydeside shipbuilding, I blame the Japs - let's send them the neds!

He should have run some one over with the bike and killed them, with a hanky in his pocket he'd have got of lightly with a £200 fine and only six months ban.
