Animals on the road are a constant hazard, especially in the UK. None worse than the deer; capable of prancing into your path with no care in the world. But unlike the rabbit or low flying bird, deer are - due to their lane hogging size - hard to avoid, as an unfortunate doctor in Indiana found out.

Dr. Ranford Hall, 55, a podiatrist and pilot was at his local airfield in Bedford when he got on his bike to check on the lights of a friends plane. On his way back to the hanger along the mile long runway, a deer ran into the path of Dr. Hall's motorcycle. The two collided and although wearing a full-face helmet, Dr. Hall died from head injuries. We can only assume the deer met a similar end.

On the way to Watton the other day (cracking road, too) I was coming up to a left-hander at a reasonable pace, when a deer jumped out the hedge and skipped across the road.

Feather the brake, best slow down a touch.

Ah, another one decides to follow its friend across. They're quite big up close, aren't they?

Definite conscious effort to slow the bike down now, but getting very close to that corner.

Oh my word, out pops another one, without even a cursory glance in my direction. No road manners whatsoever.

I'm now getting scared, as the realisation I'm timing my braking to meet the fourth one in a T-bone stylee begins to dawn on me.

Thankfully, God decided it wasn't quite my time yet, as a fourth deer didn't appear.

I won't be approaching that bend in quite the same manner ever again!

I wouldnt want to meet one after what a bl***y moose of a deer did to my car! Took the entire front end out, bonnet, bumper, air con, radiator, crossmember. What was worse it got off the bonnet, left a nice deer shaped imprint and run off!

On Valentines day I nearly hit 2 deer on the A15 on the way back from Bourne, managed to slow down in time, I have to say they do look really nice up close :P
But they are kinda dangerous, but what can be done about it?
