Cops refuse to chase helmetless bike thief

Hampshire Police under fire over pizza delivery bike theft

POLICE IN Hampshire have been accused of not chasing a pair of motorcycle thieves because one of the robbers wasn't wearing a helmet.

According to a report by the Southern Daily Echo, officers told the bike’s owner it would be too dangerous to chase the thugs as they rode past a stationary cop car. The Echo say that the teens were part of a ten-strong gang which had pulled pizza delivery driver Mohammed Ibrahim off his bike before beating him to the ground and stealing £35. As Mohammed was sitting in the back of a police patrol car telling officers what had happened, the two robbers rode past. But the police officers told Mohammed they could not chase them because of fears for their safety. Mohammed, a mathematics student at the University of Southampton, told the Echo:

“I was sitting in the back of the police car but they couldn’t catch them because they ran into some bushes. Then two of them drove past on my motorbike. I said to the police ‘that is my bike’. They said they couldn’t chase them as they were not wearing helmets and it will be dangerous for them. It’s crazy that they can’t chase them."

A Hampshire police spokesman said that the officers in question could not remember telling Mohammed they would not chase the teenagers because of fears for their safety.

Chief Inspector Roy Bayntun, of Hampshire Constabulary’s roads policing unit, added: “We may choose not to pursue someone due to the risk to a person’s safety, but we do have other options available to us which can lead to the identity and prosecution of an offender.”

They nicked the Bike, assaulted the guy and robbed him and they don't get followed in case they fall off?

What a pile of shit!

So now they know as long as they don't wear a lid they wont be chased? I say follow the little chavs and if they fall off ring an ambulance... eventually.

. . . stop and make sure the bike is OK.   If the chavs don't need medical attention, make sure they do.

Taser has been legal for police use for a few years now, and only today they announced 30000 cops will be trained to use them,...

but taser is F' all use against a fleeing motorcycle..

Good plan to issue pizza boys with a taser..until he is 5 minutes late and you try and argue your delivery should be free

The thing is if they had given chase and the thief came off and killed himself the cops would have been fucked up the wrong un and dismissed from work.

Personally i say fuck em and if they come off then they shouldnt have nicked it but i understand why the cops didnt chase.

Which is exactly why things are turning to shit - bleeding heart fucking liberals bleeting on about human rights of everyone - its getting to the point that the those in the wrong have more rights than the average law abiding person.

Correct, Sir, absolutely fucking correct. We follow, they fall off we get royally screwed over. The world has gone mad, as the rollings stones prophesied, "every Cop is a criminal and all the siners saints".

Welcome to the new world order.

R1 loon

Isn't this sort of old news, they've been letting them ride off for years if they're not wearing helmets?

Anybody else surprised Lord HawHaw hasn't popped up with a brand new policy that was on the BNPs manifesto all along

Insanity
Yeah, that fucking sucks, they decided to steal the bike without a helmet, they should suffer the consequencies...hopeful thats death because the courts would just let them off anyways...

Posted: 24/11/2008 at 20:00

FoggyVisor
Had the road tax not been paid on the bike they sure as hell would have chased them!
