Carbon reducing valve can lower emissions by 80%

It takes ten minutes to fit and has been proven in testing, says BBC News report

Intech's valve takes just 10 minutes to fit

BBC NEWS have released a video report of a carbon reducing valve, which can reduce a motorcycle's engine emissions by up to 80 per cent.

The valve, which takes just ten minutes to fit, has been developed to work on motorcycles, but can been used on a variety of internal combustion engines, including cars and lawnmowers, says the product's Worthing-based inventor.

The valve, called the InTech, works by reducing the piston's down-stroke pressure, which in turn allows the motor to run more freely, hence the reduction in emissions.

The company's website says:

Lower Emissions - Time to get rid of the power sapping cat! Urbane InTech delivers instant and sometimes staggering reductions in emissions. Most effective in reducing the emission of Hydrocarbons and Carbon Monoxide, InTech delivers these benefits from the moment that the engine is started, unlike the catalytic converter that needs to reach and maintain its operating temperature to remain effective.

The company, Urbane Racing, say the valve can be used to adjust engine braking, too:

Adjustable Engine Braking - A unique additional benefit for bikes is the reduction in rear wheel lock or chatter, providing a much cheaper option to a slipper clutch.

Could an 80 per cent reduction in emissions really be so simple?

Must be so good that all manufacturers are biting their arm off for it. Yet another expensive piece of crap

If less power is used turning the engine over then surely more must make it to the back wheel?

There's been a lot of debate about this device about this time last year.

Basically its a valve that allows air to bleed into the inlet tract between the butterfly valves and the inlet valves themselves when the throttle is shut. So, although the throttle is closed and no fluel is going in you can adjust the amount of air getting into the engine from normal (effectively zero) to max - like having the throttle open 25% but no ignition.

It certainly reduces engine braking - I've got one fitted to my superduke but the rest is, i think, bollox.

I think I read that you can do something similar by conecting your engine breather to the pair valve, thereby reducing crankcase pressure and piston resistance.

a load of rubbish, i have one on my gsxr 1000 and when i had it dynoed the guy just laughed at the £150 it cost me

Snake oil. It fools the dyno into giving wildly incorrect readings when it is trying to measure the friction losses on the over-run.

Haven't Suzuki just included a similar device on the new Gladius?

Purely interested in this for the enviro angle myself, any performance gain is just a bonus

Why don't manufactures bite the arms off? You should watch "Who Killed the Electric Car?" one day... Information on the documentary

Nothing could be further from the truth.

I'm sceptical by nature, hence reading stuff up on the internet, I've read your link and yes it does give lots of food for thought with regard to how beneficial this device is or isn't! - althougth the clean burn ideals still hold my interest.

I have read redroosters post and imagine the improved dyno graph results may be down to what he mentioned, what about the emmision improvements though?

Having said that myself I know only to well how a vehicle can fail MOT if emmisions are checked when the engine isn't warmed up, so it wouldn't be too difficult to deceive reporters

But surely the friction losses are measured with the engine disengaged from the transmission?  So there would be no incorrect readings with or without this device.

That MCN test video was quite impressive on both items...

This device doesn't stack up.

From what I can tell from the Urbane web site it's a single valve and it's fitted to one of the vacuum connectors at the carb.  So it can't be feeding all 2/3/4 pistons anyway.  So the bollocks about it opening and closing 4 times per revolution is bollox.

Basically it's just a bleed valve that lets extra air in when manifold pressure is low.  Which is like keeping the throttles slightly open and not feeding as much fuel in on the over run.

excatly right, its only works on the over run or closed throttle, it has no effect when open, i bought two of them and the only good thing it did was reduce engine braking which i found good on my track bike as id didnt have a slipper clutch, and i have to say it worked well for that

Triumph do something similar with their new(2009) 675 Daytona. They worked it into the ECU so that it keeps airflow through when off throttle. Apparently it's pretty good too.

I have to agree with others and to make matters worse I can't contact them, their web page doesn't accept my email address. They don't give out any contact details on their web page.

I had to search the net for their company name to get contact details and found it advertising tire/wheel changes!

Their fax line doesn't work.

No email address supplied. For a proffessional company with integrity I wouldn't go near them or their products.

I have read the above thread and have come on to clear some things up! I am the inventor of the InTech unit and have worked on the project for the last 15 years. It was originally designed to reduce emissions on any 4 stroke engine. As an engineer, and a nosey one at that, i fitted the unit to my 748 only to find some interesting characteristics, I think, as they say the rest is history!

I would like to point out that "Urbane Racing Ltd" has no authority over InTech nor any associated products. My contact details are www.urbaneperformance.co.ukwhere there is a contact no and email address. I would be pleased to answer any questions with regard to InTech and my other technologies, in the usual business hours.

Many Thanks, Richard Bushell.

 Thanks Richard,

Rather strange comments, when talking about "Urbane Racing Ltd" no authority, etc why not another company, not associated with your company or products. Sounds like "Urbane Racing Ltd was or still is an associated company of yours, but operated by other directors. Never mind got your point. But you say, you claim

" Power delivery improved by 10% - 15%. " that is pretty impressive statement, please show dyna tune readouts for that above power delivery, or have you a different explaination of power than we do of HP/Torque etc

 Regards  John Seccombe

John, I'm sure that I don't need to go into commercial details, surfice to say that you make decisions that sometimes you regret!!

I will not delude anyone, this unit is not a miracle product, it is a sound engineering based development, designed to reduce 4 stroke emissions but has some beneficial side effects.  I have fitted many configurations of bike and car and opened this technology up to independant review, all of the results are available and some are already public knowledge.

Tomorrow on BBC news, there is the results of a long term test on 2 cars, I think that it will speak for itself. At every point, I have always left others to provide evidence of what InTech can achieve.

I am absolutely prepared to explain beyond what is in the public domain the principle of the unit (within reason). it is not to be confused with air bleed or other such devices. Please look on the BBC search facillity on their home page, type in "Carbon Valve" and some basics will be explained.

Many Thanks

Richard Bushell

PS I do understand that there will be lots of people trying to slate this technology through either lack of informatin or just because they can, I hope that people take an informed view once they have enough info to do so!

Why would you retro fit one anyway?

Well, i think its great to see someone thinking outside of the box. We need more innovators like Mr Bushell who are prepared to push the boundaries and limits and come up with something new.

Lowering the carbon emissions that we are pumping into the atmosphere is surely a help and not a hindrance - and it should be remembered that often in the throws of finding cures for a cough, the 'accidental' discovery of a cure for asthma is often the case.

For us in the UK this is great for another reason - we don't seem to manuafacture an awful lot of importance these days - long live good ideas and simple solutions to complex situations.

It is such a pity that the understanding of basic science has reached such a low level.

I can lower my carbon emissions by 100%. Sounds good eh, how can I do it, simple turn my ignition key to the left.

Power delivery improved by 10-15% ?  Just what is 'power delivery', is it he same as 'power output', I think not.

Remember the car that ran on water, don't see many of them on the roads, must have been a conspiracy by the oil companies that killed it off.

The baisc laws of physics are not difficult, and they can't be broken !
