Bulldog Bash Organisers: 'Policing was overkill'

Warwickshire Police defend £1.4m spent on biker festival security

by Visordown News

THE £1.4m cost of policing the Bulldog Bash that resulted 26 arrests has been defended by police.

Organisers of the famous biking event at Long Marston claimed that the high-profile policing was "overkill".

But Warwickshire Police told the BBC that the increased presence was necessary after the fatal shooting of Gerry Tobin on the M40 on his way home from the festival last year.

Seventeen of the arrests made at the event were for carrying offensive weapons, the rest were for drugs offences.

Assistant Chief Constable Bill Holland, of Warwickshire Police, said: "I can look back over the four days of Bulldog Bash with a degree of satisfaction because there were no serious incidents this year."

Sunderboy

I'm just wondering if the scenario had been different.. say Farmer Giles had been shot on his way home from the National Show in Stoneleigh, in a service station 30 miles away from the site.  Would Warwickshire police have called for the event to be cancelled and when unssuccessful flooded the area with tooled up Copper's at the tax payer's expense?

£1.4million!? what's that... £52k an arrest, that's what i call value for money.  That would pay for 2 extra coppers to patrol the streets for a year and arrest some REAL toe-rags.

You have read all the arrest sheets then?

I was thinking that as well, leathermans, swiss army knives or a great big knife that the guy uses every time he goes camping. No firearms offences though eh.

People with pockets full of weed and pills just because it's gonna be a long weekend.

It must be an easy tug, rough looking guy on a rough looking bike. Bet he's got an 1/8th in his pocket.

Great quote from the copper though, saying that because there were no murders, he judges the police presence as a success. Righto..

A bit like this magic anti-elephant powder I'm selling: it clearly works, cos there's no elephants round here..

Nightshade
ill take some of that elephant powder (you never know when the sneeky little bastards might turn up)

Huw

Let them crow that they are a success, at least it means the shows go on.

Same is happening at Anglesey this year, 6 extra bobbies and a sergeant at a cost of 13k.

What 7 uniforms would do if it turns into the OK corral (that they seem to expect) I don't know.

There is an Agricultural show on this weekend at the same showground, I'll post up how many arrest there are. Last year I think it was 16.
