Funding cuts force demise of road safety initiative
BUCKINGHAMSHIRE look set to scrap the county's speed camera network, following budget cutbacks, it has been announced.Government funding cuts to Road Safety Partnerships could signal the end of Buckinghamshire's 51 fixed cameras; Cabinet member for transportation, Cllr Val Letheren, said the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership, which manages speed cameras in the area, could be wound up if funding is not forthcoming."If there is no funding forthcoming then the partnership could cease operations."Transport for Buckinghamshire is considering whether to suspend speed enforcement in Bucks," she added.It's believed maintenance of existing cameras will decline as budgets are withdrawn.
