Brunstrom lets foreign lorry drivers off

Much-mocked Welsh bobby says his officers won't pull over foreign trucks breaking the law because it might harm the economy

RICHARD BRUNSTROM, the North Wales Police Chief Constable has said that his officers are not pulling over foreign lorry drivers who are breaking the law because doing so might harm the economy.

Brunstrom, nicknamed the mad mullah of the traffic Taliban, because of his increasingly long list of strange decisions over policing issues and eagerness to clamp down on speeding motorists sounds as though he admits to not pursuing foreign lorry drivers on the A55 to Holyhead.

As reported in the Daily Telegraph today, Brunstrom is reported to have said during an address to the Welsh Assembly: ‘If we start enforcing the law rigorously on the A55, we run a risk of severe economic damage to the port of Holyhead because the traffic will transfer to Liverpool if there was a lighter touch there.’

So there's your answer then, just wait until the economy is in a rough way, get in a foreign truck and you can drive however you like without the cops in North Wales watching you very closely! What a bloody idiot that man is.

Mr.Tony

what about all the people that dont go to north wales because of the fanatical speed limit enforcement eg. 33mph (in a 30) = speed awareness course. 34 mph = 3 points and a fine. there are thousands of people i'd guess fallen foul of that and wont take the chance of visiting the place just in case their concentration lapses a little and they stray a few mph over the limit and get caught.

IMHO the man is a complete prick.

The bloke is an absolute despot. The thing I can't understand is that he is appointed the post by local and national government. With the amount of stupid statements and cock-ups that he has made during his tenure I am amazed that his behaviour has not got him relieved of his duties.

Huw

The economy is going to be harmed much more if he lets foriegn drivers do as they please.

All the local firms will be out of buisness and the European drivers will have it all to themselves. Although I don't do much of the driving at the moment, as beetee says the police and VOSA are all over us local drivers, if I get a ban and lose my job, and end up out of work, does that not harm the economy?

when I was on my speed awarness course, out of the 15 in the room, only 5 where from North Wales, the rest where Buisness people and holiday makers dragged from as far as London, great for our economy?

In the last 6 months there has been 3 fatal accidents on Anglesey involving European HGV's and local people, all the HGV drivers fault, one was a friend of my sisters, killed by a German lorry that veered over her side of the road, after driving all the way from Dover without a break.

 Talk about short sighted.

Don't go to Wales!

As they have there own stupid waste of money assembly & things like free prescriptions I won't spend any money in Wales or with Welsh companies. I prefer to hop over the channel to France where just about everything is better and cheaper anyway. I'm quite happy to harm the Welsh economy!

I cant help but think this guy  single handedly is destroying the economy of North Wales , through his single minded focus on speed . I think its outrageous that he thinks pulling over foreign truck drivers will effect the economy.  Its  a common thing when some people get a position of authority they abuse it , given the number of complaints against him , and the fact he is a public servant is it not time someone with common sense ejects him from this role before he damages North Wales even more .
