Boy, aged 5, gets helmetless ride from mother

Police nab 23-year-old mother riding on main road with child sat on petrol tank

A WOMAN has been caught riding a motorcycle along a main road with her five-year-old son sitting on the petrol tank, a police report said.

Traffic officers stopped the 23-year-old woman in Glenrothes, Fife, after she was seen driving the bike with the child - who was not wearing a crash helmet.

She was charged with a number of driving-related offences and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal at Kirkcaldy.
The woman was spotted by officers during a routine patrol of a housing estate Wednesday morning.

Inspector David Houston, deputy head of road policing at Fife Constabulary, said: "Any normal drivers on the road would have been extremely surprised to see something like that. I have little doubt that the woman involved in this case now fully recognises that danger that she placed her young child in.

"I would appeal to parents to think carefully about the decisions they take to provide 'fun' for their kids. All too often we have attended incidents where motorcycle or quad bike misuse has led to injuries to young people. This case unfortunately highlights the misguided decisions that some people make."
