Bloodrunners - the real thing

Lancashire volunteers to transport emergency blood by bike

VOLUNTEER MOTORCYCLISTS are to make a huge contribution to saving lives and money by delivering emergency supplies of blood to hospitals by bike, instead of using expensive taxis and couriers.

Dave Sammons, 25, is heading up a North West version of a charity which delivers blood products to accident and emergency units at night, free of charge, saving Lancashire's tax payers valuable cash.

The initiative, named SERV - Service By Emergency Rider Volunteers, started in the South East of England 26 years ago by volunteers who transport emergency blood supplies at night.

The aim of the charity is to provide a free out-of-hours service to transport blood and other urgent medical items for NHS hospitals.

Anyone interested in volunteering or sponsoring the charity scheme, call Dave on 07017 030504 or e-mail: development@serv.org.uk
