Blood test seals biker's fate

Motorcyclist charged with causing death by careless driving after refusing to take a police breathalyser test

A MOTORCYCLIST has been found guilty of causing death by careless driving after refusing to take a police breathalyser test following a fatal crash.

Christopher Coe would not allow officers to take a sample for testing after he crashed into pedestrian Richard Flynn.

Coe, 42, of Westbury Road, Penhill, denied death by careless driving while unfit by drink.

But a jury at Swindon Crown Court found him guilty after taking into consideration the alcohol levels in blood taken at the Great Western Hospital.

Coe was ordered to return to Swindon Crown Court for sentencing on July 31.

What kind of twat rides a motorcycle whilst pissed?

danh1983

when we went over to the TT, the misses uncle who is the boat manager on the viking had to pick a guy up off the floor who he spotted when they were doing the rounds after the boat had docked.

He obviously gave him a polite nudge and was gobsmacked when he picked up a helmet.

He said to the guy, do you need us to get your bike off for you mate and we can lock it up safe for you and you can pick it up when you've sobered up.

The guy said no no, im fine and i wanna go for a spin down the promenade any way.

The misses uncle just laughed and warned him that he had no chance and his week would be ruined as soon as he rode his bike off the boat.

But he still insisted on getting his bike off, so people are obviously prepared to get on their bikes whilst having a few on board.

Should be done for manslaughter at the very least in my opinion, if they manage to kill someone while under the influence.

The mind really boggles at what posses people to go any where near alcohol when they are on a bike.

you'll be surprised at the arrogance of a drink driver.....the best drivers/riders in the world and above the law.

in thier opinion.

I do take immense pleasure at nicking a drink driver.

There is absolutely no excuse in today's society to take such a stupid and dangerous risk.

Taff..

we had a fella crash 20 yards from our old house, he was on a ZZR1100 when he rode into the kerb, crashed and broke his collarbone.

we called an ambulance even though he was protesting and they took him off to hospital.  when he turned up a few days later to pick his bike up from our shed he told us it was standard procedure to carry out a breath test in the hospital and he was getting done for DD.

we felt a bit awkward at the time because it was as if we had grassed on him, but even he admited it was his own bloody fault.

it allways amazes me when i go out to bike nights and some of the assembled are knocking back the pints, just hope i dont meet them coming the other way.

danh agree with what you witnessed, we were on our way to the tt and the guys sitting next to us in the bar all wearing leathers, carrying helmets etc had about 6 pints each on the crossing, then a round of coffees to sober up just before they docked

drink driving is inexcusable, i dont do it, the only possible way i would get done is the morning after, adn even then if i have an early start i dont drink the night before

I think the problem is for many people, once they get a few beers in you, then their belief in their own ability goes up, and is matched by an equal and opposite drop in sense.

They are stupid, ignorant and should (if caught following killing some one) be jailed for manslaughter. If there was a god then natural selection would take their miserable life instead of the poor sucker who often ends up dead after doing nothing but trying to get home or walk to a mates when they are hit.

I agree - manslaughter if you're DD and kill someone ( other than yourself )

Why are plod not waiting at the ferry port to test all the drivers / riders from IOM ? (they could use the dogey rear light excuse ). Maybe the ferries should stop selling alcohol !!

It looks like this may well be the same guy, from a few years ago...

 http://archive.salisburyjournal.co.uk/2001/7/4/214710.html

Apparently he doesn't learn...

So, what's the maximum sentence for causing death by careless while pissed, then? I expect he may be about to find out...

Edit: Actually, after reading this more detailed report of the latest case I really do hope so. He was still 2.5 times the limit when he got tested in hospital, he was carrying a pillion and the poor old ped was on a pedestrian crossing when he took him out at high speed. Looks like he needs locking up for the safety of himself and others if nothing else...

The only way to deal with drunk drivers is to shoot the fuckers, point blank range at the side of the road, then hang their miserable corpses from the nearest lamp post as a warning to others........

As stated above they are arrogant and thoughtless with no regard for other people. They should be treated with the same level of disdain as they have for the welfare of those around them.....

Agreed. I always stop drinking by midnight unless i know i wont be using a car/bike before the next afternoon. Have to admit I've had a couple of pedal cycle rides home after a few, but if there's a chance of hurting anyone else, no way.

there is no excuse for drink driving pricks like this guy should never be allowed back on the road when they get out of jail. hopefully this prick will get locked up.

Spot the mistake in the "This is Wiltshire " report.

They have used the Defendant's name in error in referring to the police office

Anyone can drink - but it takes a special sort of Prat to drive as well.

I really don't care if they total themselves while drunk - does the gene pool a favour but they should be done for murder [not manslaughter] if they total someone else 'cos they made the descision to drink'n'drive. This goes for both Cars and Bikes.

Sorry, I have a REAL problem with Drunk Drivers/Riders. Rant over.

AC

I have no sympathy for drunk drivers. If they don't have the self discipline to stay off the stuff they should get a cab or a lift. It isn't difficult.
