Bill Gates invests in 2-stroke engine tech

The King of Geeks backs company that could see a return to reliable and efficient two-stroke power

BILL GATES has joined the list of technology big hitters who are investing in green technology.

Gates and Sun Microsystems co-founder Vinod Khosla have jointly invested £23.5 million into Detroit-based firm EcoMotors who are developing a two-stroke engine called OPOC.

The engine technology uses a twin-opposed cylinder layout and claims to make vehicles up to 50% more efficient. The OPOC engine is also half the size and weight of a conventional engine.

The firm aims to produce a car later on in 2010 that will return over 100mpg. It's thought a design for a motorcycle is also in progress.

Gates said: “EcoMotors has developed a promising technology that could help reduce levels of greenhouse gas emissions in a low-cost, globally relevant way.”

Hopefully it won't turn off for no reason in the middle of something important.

Simple, small but long. This would suit scooters, surely?

All local mechanics will get Microsoft Authorized Mechanic name boards
The motor will crash every 500 km and require to hold the clutch, accelerate hard and use right indicator with a combination of left hand, left leg and right hand to restart
After every production run 0f 500 motors, there will be rubber patches released to ensure bugs dont get into the cylinder
There will be versions ranging from Engine 95 to Engine 7 where the CC will get bigger and bigger and the engine will run slower and slower
Apple will get out of the engine manufacturing game and start making disk brakes which can also play music, record videos etc - People will queue up to buy every time Apple releases a new version
Google will offer a new service by which you don't need your own engine - all engines will be stored on the internet and u can buy as much HP as you want with a good broadband connection
China will ban this as it means power to the people, Google will then offer this service from an offshore facility in Taiwan
India of course will provide all back end support and offer remote maintenance services for all vehicles running this engine.
All mechs/mechanical engineering graduates will become incredibly rich. Rd prices will be somewhere near that of a used bicycle and all us nutcases will happily ride them off into the sunset.
