A 38-YEAR-OLD motorcyclist with a smashed pelvis crawled along a dirt track for an excruciating half a mile in search of help in a two day ordeal following an accident in Brisbane, Australia.
The unnamed rider, from Chuwar, had been riding his dirtbike in a forest when he hit a tree, said Medical Emergency helicopter crewman Garry Isakiewicz. Despite a staggering collection of injuries, which included a broken pelvis and internal bleeding the rider survived for two days until two other dirtbike riders found him dehydrated and lying in a ditch. "He said he hit a tree on Monday at lunchtime and crawled about half a mile along a track,'' Mr Isakiewicz is reported as saying: "He had a broken pelvis and maybe some internal injuries but all his signs and symptoms like his blood pressure were quite good. He was conscious and said he wasn't knocked out during his ordeal.'' The rider has been airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in a stable condition. A spokesman for the Queensland Ambulance Service said the man had survived the ordeal due to his physical fitness and the fact that he had a bottle of water with him.
