Police seek witnesses after motorcyclist suffers "life threatening" injuries

A MOTORCYCLIST suffered life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a wooden board that fell from the back of a vehicle on the M25.

Police closed the motorway between junctions 7 and 5 after the biker was hit by a plank, which fell off what Police believe to be a yellow van with a yellow cage on the back.

The man then collided with the central reservation.

Police say he suffered “serious life threatening injuries.”

Sergeant Jamie Dann said: “We are appealing for the driver of the Transit-style vehicle to come forward as they may have continued their journey unaware that debris had fallen off the back. We would also appeal for any witnesses who saw what happened to contact us as soon as possible.”

I used to drop off/collect scaffolding and concrete pad things.
Safe when you were droppin it off ,all nice and
Clean and packed/tied up well.
Bloody nightmare wen you arrived to collect off
The site, covered in 3months of shit, all flung together by someone
Who was more interested in gettin his sausage roll.

Had about 25/30 ratchet straps,still wasn't enough
To make it completly safe sometimes.
Like a giant kerplunk set!
If I saw a bike behind me My heart was in my mouth.

Never had anything fall off though.
Impossible job, only one man and 3to8 tons of assorted metal/wood.

Something very similar happened to me once on the A38 near Plymouth, although I was driving a car at the time.

Following behind a flatbed transit with a load of unsecured planks piled in the back, protruding out above the cab. As the van's speed passed about 60mph the wind got under the planks and the whole lot flew into the air like a rain of giant arrows. Cars swerving everywhere to avoid them. Fortunately nobody injured on that occasion.

Always have to expect the unexpected - there are so many f*ckwits out there on the roads!
