Bike stars to enter 12-hour lawnmower endurance

Guy Martin and Karl Harris to enter lawn-mowathon

The John Deere Special - yesterday, maybe

TT ACE Guy Martin and BSB star Karl Harris, are entering a 12-hour lawnmower endurance race and you could too!

This year's race will be start at 8 m on the 28th July 2007 at Brinsbury College near Pulborough West Sussex.

The BSB Superbike team hope to be one of those teams looking forward to the challenge and with rumours of an identical mower to their Honda 3810 being built by a rival team, there will be bragging rights to be won!

A flurry of last minute entries have swelled this years entry to the 12

Hour Lawn Mower Race. With 52 teams taking part in 4 classes this looks

like being the best event yet.

Group 4 a class that was developed a few years ago to encourage bonneted

mowers, now totals 26 nearly double Group 3 with 16 entries, consisting

of mainly Lawnbugs. Group 2 the tow behind class, a mower that was

typically seen on cricket pitches have a healthy entry of 8 and in the

standard class, which has become the preserve of the racers wives and

girlfriends, sees 4 teams all raising money for charity.

As with all events there is a bit of scandal and not to be outdone by

Formula 1's controversy, there are rumours of teams poaching mechanics

and drivers. The traditional North v South challenge has become more

fierce this year, with teams poaching drivers from the South to drive

for the North and vice versa. All of this spices up the action, as teams

vie for the coveted prize, winners of The 12 Hour Lawn Mower Race 2007

and add their names to a trophy boasting winners like Sir Stirling Moss

and Derek Bell.

There will also be the Battle of the Pubs, as The Cricketers Arms,

entering 4 teams take on The Three Crowns entering 1 team and both from

Wisborough Green, do battle for the honours of being "The Best Pub

Team". However there is a twist........The drivers of The Cricketers

Teams used to race for The Three Crowns! But there is a further twist,

the drivers of The Three Crowns used to race for The Cricketers!!

Who will come out tops the home of Lawn Mower Racing, The Cricketers or

the pub down the road The Three Crowns!! This is going to be a race not

to be missed!
