Bennetts reveal Britain’s ‘average biker’
Britain's typical motorcyclist is a middle-class, professional, family man that rides a Honda
BENNETTS - the UK’s number one for bike insurance - has revealed the profile of the ‘average biker’ in 21st Century Britain, is a seemingly upstanding, 40-something middle-class citizen who is a married, professional, family man.
The study reveals 50% of the British bikers questioned having a tattoo and a third sporting a beard. Only 7% sport either long hair or a pony tail. Nearly 60% of those surveyed hold down a professional senior/management job, taking home an average wage of £30,000 a year, up 25% on the national average of £24,000.
The average biker rides a Honda and manages just 7,500 miles a year, with 80% of bikers surveyed owning a car as well as a motorbike. Biking seems to still be very much associated with a mid-life crisis as the average biker has only been riding for two years, despite his age.

Another one of Bennett's worthless surveys. How on earth did they manage to work out that Average biker has only been riding for two years. They must have included lots of newbies in their sample.

The average biker has been riding 2 years and has had 6 bikes! Either he isn't very good at riding yet or he has more money than sense. Kettle boiled in the middle of writing this post

lets put it this way if they had 6 bikes in 2 years they were not insured with rob dogs bennetts, as you have to pay stupid fees to cancel a policy.
why dont bennetts stick to things they know about like gardening. cause they know fuck all about insurance or bikes for that matter

So 30% of bikers are professionals, but 44% only manage to exceed the national average salary by £6000. This might be explained by the fact that 43% only ride twice a week, but 55% commute to work on their bike. So the main conclusion to be drawn from this is that a lot of professionals only work 2 days per week, which explains why they have such low salaries.

I have just calculated, and find that I am 63.55% average That's about average
55.5% here (10 out of 18). Does that make me below or above average

Sooo, I was middle class when I was on my Viffer? It's true, then, you do meet the nicest people on a Honda . Wait a minute though, am I back to being a prole now I'm on a trumpet?

I think you need to remember that "average" can be "mean average", "median average" or "modal average". Different ones are used in different situations and imply very different things. Joe public is mostly used to "mean" average (total the values up and divide by how many values you added), but for example National Average Income is closer to a median average value. So if you mix average types it's quite possible to have a median or modal average of 2-3 years experience, yet also have an average of 6 bikes. So indeed - as other people have said - the statistics are meaningless without a good understanding of the data and how it was cut.

The bit that puzzles me is the bit about beards. Unless I'm missing something surely you either have a beard or you don't, that being so, how can just 32.6% be the average? Surely the other 67.4% are the average ones, not the minority that do... ...and that's not withstanding the fact that 3.2% almost certainly aren't going to have beards anyway.

Pretty much all adult men have beards - just some are very, very short due to shaving.

For those who pay their insurance premiums to Bennetts, make sure you are getting all the services you are paying for. Bennetts do have some very nice extras, such as the Bennetts Babes …and guess who is paying for them? Next time the Missus is away overnight, why not give Bennetts a ring and ask em to send over one of the babes. If they give you any shite, give em your policy number and tell em you’re only after what you’ve paid for.

My insurance is through bennetts, underwritten by Aviva (NU) and they are decent, cheap, claims work well (they replaced my bike brand new in 2008) and their legal protection (tick that box!) seems OK - still fighting my corner anyway...
...now tell us about the Bennetts Babes!
are you the one who has had six bikes in the past two years?
