Banned drink-drive biker escapes jail

Drunk biker with EIGHT previous driving bans avoids custodial sentence

A BIKER previously banned eight times from driving escaped a custodial sentence yesterday – even though he'd been caught twice over the drink-drive limit.

South East Suffolk magistrates heard how James Lewis, 24, was caught riding while disqualified, with no insurance or MoT, without a crash helmet and carrying a pillion passenger, when he was stopped by Police earlier this year. He was also double the legal drink-drive limit.

Tests revealed Lewis had 81 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, magistrates heard. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

Lewis was slapped a 22-week jail term suspended for two years and also banned from driving for two years. He was put on probation for 18 months, told to complete a substance abuse programme and ordered to do 100 hours’ unpaid work.

And to cap it all, after yesterday’s hearing Lewis’s mother was asked if he ought to be ashamed about the number of times he had been banned.

She replied: “Why should he? Everyone else does it.”

And his mum said "Why should he [beashamed]? Everyone else does it.”

Raising a family of alcoholics and proud of it, well done for your contribution to society.

Duh

Instructor

WTF was the magistrate thinking off ??

Send the little fooker to prison, do not pass go and dont collect £200.

Obvisously the little sh1te doesn't give a toss about anyone so why should he be allow to breath our air let alone walk down the street.

ah, the old 'everyone else does it' legal / moral argument.

The legal profession's failings aside, this is just another example to beused in the debate on where we, as a society, are heading, what we accept as being acceptable morals and more importantly what behaviours we demonstrate to others.

hugh jazz

this guy obviously does not get the hint hes already been done for the same offence 8 times and still carries on doing it so what was the magistrate thinking about when he let him go?

it obvious he will do it again sooner or later.

lets hope the next thing to stop hims a lamp post and not a copper i feel the lamp post might dish out more of a fair sentance

Let's just hope he doesn't take an innocent person with him when he inevitably cashes in his chips.

And the stupid f*cking mother will be there wailing "he was such a nice young boy, always so careful".

Scum, raising scum... imo.

This neatly sums up Magistrates, waste of space to a man/woman. I am constantly amazed at the results these halfwits hand down. The Police spend a huge amount of effort, time and resources getting a case past CPS and into court only for these idiots to fuck it all up time and time again. Arse.

what can you do when there told to let them off as theres no room for them in prison?

the law as been on its arse for some time and its only going to get worse because as more get loosed of with offenses the more they offend

I'm sure he'll take a lot of notice of the ban, just like he did about needing tax and insurance...

Still, the good news is that he rides without a helmet.  Let's hope he takes his mum as a pillion next time...
