Audi to supply TT roads-open cars

Local Manx firm dumped in sponsorship cash grab

AUDI TT sports cars will act as roads-open and course inspection vehicles at the 2008 Isle of Man TT as part of a two-year sponsorship package. The German brand is also supporting the event with cash and as ‘vehicle partner’ will supply eight of its top-spec TTS models for use by officials. The TT festival will also be featured on Audi's own digital TV channel.

This new arrangement controversially excludes the Island’s Mylchreests Group automotive dealership, which has supplied cars and drivers to the TT organisers for more than 60 years. The official roads-open car has been driven by that company’s managing director David Mylchreest for the past 30 years - and before that his father Brian did the job.

The decision to dispense with Mylchreests’ services is purely commercial, according to Isle of Man tourism and leisure minister Adrian Earnshaw.

if it helps ensure the TT, then whatsthe issue?

Posted: 08/04/2008 at 14:37

just the tossing aside of someone that has helped /sponsored been involved for many years, mind you , might have been his idea

The TT isn't going anywhere, it is firmly set. As more corporate sponsors come in though, prices will rise and you'll feel like you're walking through an advert rather than the isle of mann. 60 years of loyalty and then cast aside. I hope it was his idea or he's going to be proper down about not carrying on his family's heritage..
