A FRENCH tourist has been fined £3000 for killing a Harley-Davidson rider and pillion after driving on the wrong side of the road.
The incident occurred after Roland Bayon, 61, believed that he was still travelling on a dual carriageway when he overtook a slower car on the A9, north of the Drumochter duel. He hit the motorbike, killing husband and wife Peter and Jaqueline Corris from Lancashire, who were in the area to attend the Thunder of the Glens meeting in Aviemore.
The Frenchman admitted responsibility for causing the deaths of the husband and wife by driving carelessly when the hired Renault Megane collided with them head-on, they were pronounced dead at the scene. Left traumatised by the accident, he explained to Police that he pulled out to overtake a car that had slowed down to pull into a layby and moved in the opposite lane when the motorbike suddenly appeared.
Bayon, from Bourge De Peage in the south of France, along with his wife and two children had to be cut free from the car by firefighters and all escaped serious injury.
Mr and Mrs Corris leave behind a son and daughter and were about to celebrate the birth of their first grandchild.
