no i'm not talking about a C90.

but my Murray mower

the engine is breaking away from the deck. i think the deck is made of aluminium - and stones have made a few holes in it

can i weld plates onto the aluminium?

i have an arc welder with 2mm milds steel welding rods - the welder has a range of 60-150 amps?

is this possible or will i just melt everything??

(first welding repair went sweet as a nut when i welded the mirror holding bracket on my mates nc30 )

mirror/upper fairing support brackets are always made of steel, your lawnmower deck will be aluminium, no chance I'm afraid.

No chance- I don't think it's possible to weld aluminium with arc. You can do it with MIG with pure argon gas and ally wire, but I reckon a lot of practice would be needed before starting on the mower you can also get aluminium rods and flux for gas welding, but that is another kettle of fish

Maybe you could bolt in a reinforcing plate underneath...........
