fitting a smaller diameter silencer......reducers or chop the link pipe? ideas.

HI all,

I wanted to replace the micron pipe on my bike as its been down the road and needs a change. Its a full micron race system so the pipe diameter is 65mm.

I found a Blueflame evo can on ebay and checked with the guy if it will fit on and he said i could make it fit no probs but the blue flame(arrived today) is 55m so no chance really.

Looked online and found some stainless reducers but there 6 inches long and have to be clamped on so will prob look a bit crap. has anybody used these or similar?

I was also considering cutting the micron link pipe to fit but am unsure,

The link pipe is twin skinned and the inner pipe is the right size to fit the new pipe so i coule prob grind the outer down to slip the pipe onto the inner BUT im not sure if this might cause any problems.

Anybody got any ideas or suggestions?

In any event you don't want to go from 65 to 55mm in a short distance - it'll cause odd running and look shit. I'd cut the micron system further forward (possibly smaller diameter there anyway) and then use new pieces of stainless pipe from there to the new silencer.

Was considering that but where it goes from 4 to 1 it joins to the 55m inner pipe and the 65m outer and runs the whole way up so it does not get narrower.  but as the inner is the correct size i could cut back the outer enough to slip the can on and maybe get it welded back up to stop any rattles etc.

Aaaah, I see - think I misunderstood your previous post.

So the actual "flow diameter" is 55mm all the way along, but the micron system is double walled?

Probably do-able - use a small slitting saw on a dremel to cut around the outer, and then along it, then peel it open?

Took another look this morn and though cutting back the outer pipe would work i would be chopping up and expensive system(cost bout £500 quid)

Considering getting a few inches of stainless that would slip over the micron and then getting a couple of reducer sleeves over the inlet of the Blueflame and clamping it down on that as there is a few mil gap between the 2 walls on the micron so it should sit fine. Think i may aswell try something like this before butchering anything.....

Yeah - I'd rather do that than cut up £500 too! Hell I'm from Yorkshire - I wouldn't cut up a tenner!
