Anyone know when the Ducati Hypermotard is available and what price???

Are they doing it in black???

I'm off to the Excel London Show to have a look.

Wot does the SM world think of it as a road bike compared to the KTM 950 SM or 990 SupaD?

New bike for me this year and its gonna be one of those babies !!!!

They look nice, but wouldn't have thought they would be as durable as the KTBOOM. Would have thought costs would be higher and they wouldn't crash as well, to boot. But could be wrong.

Personnally I'd rather have the KTM as I reckon it would be the better bike, but thats just my opinion and I could be completely wrong. Duc would get more looks thou

Difficult to rate the Ducati - as no-one has rode one yet.

I'd tend to agree with the above.

The KTM motor is more "modern".

I'd expect the 950SM to be a better road bike, the SD to be better 'round a (road-race) track, with the Ducati being best in the car-park pose stakes.

I wonder what the Ducati will tip the scales at?

From what I can remember of the last time this came up in a thread - and from the stats on it's web page, it's a fair few kgs lighter (claimed) than the 950, probably cos it's aircooled (no LC gubbins or rads) but it's an older engine design, so most peeps thought the bhp figures were exaggerated and they'd expect the KTM to whup it's ass in pure power.

Personally, I think it looks a little precious and overdesigned, and not as purposeful or solid, - which is what I like about KTMs. Plus it has no off-road or race heritage (the KTM is derived from the Adventure) which is what makes a "real" motard in my opinion. Not that it matters if it's a good bike.

I hope they sell though, the more 'tards the better.

I hope the build quality, electrics, and ability to handle winter rain are better than my 900 Monster. That was a shit bike.

True - but almost tooo pretty.

Christy Turlington is pretty in a designer dress, but I'd rather shag Angelina Jolie in leather jeans, scuffed biker boots and a ribbed white vest.

...er, ...not sure what my point is, but I'm now a little over-stimulated. Time to go home I think.

I rode a friends Multistrada and was a tad underwhelmed by the engine, although the Hypermotard will be the 1100 lump. I quite liked it otherwise and would probably have bought one, barring the fact I couldn't insure it for a reasonable sum.

Cheers for comments, forgot that it was an air cooled tractor engine, mmmmmm. Need to give this more thought.

I had a test ride on a KTM 950 SM last summer and thought it was good but was a bit concerned by how hot my left foot got, the engine seemed to run really hot?? is that normal??? Also what are they like with open pipes on? do you have to do any jetting etc...?

Cat in the cans makes it run hot. Totally cured with Akras.

Buy one...

Cost is around 8K from what I have been told so in line with the 950SM I guess.

Personally I think it's a stunning looking bike and being a Ducati it will handle very well indeed, it's pretty much a multistrada in different clothes though if you know your Ducati's, there was even a thread on a US Ducati forum where someone had hacked and modded their multi and came up with something very similar.

This is going to sell in droves believe me, but there are quite a few things that don't do it for me over the KTM, no specifics given yet but the tank is tiny for the size of the bike/engine so KTM wins this one, also parts are going to be more expensive over the KTM, servicing is unknown as Ducati now claim longer service intervals on 07 models and lower service costs and finally which one would you rather hoon around on? The Ducati is just a bit too nice isn't it?

I've had my fair share of Ducati's and plan to have a few more yet, but I bought a 950SM for the road rather than hold out for the Hypermotard because of the above.

So it goes kerplunk, kerplunk, kerplunk, kerching, kerplunk..... but when she starts
