following on from yet another one of my threads a load of you suggest an SV650 as something to commute on.

Gilera Runner VXR200 - Twist 'n Go!

Honda hornet 600- was cheap, easy to get parts, ultra reliable, relatively upright riding position, looks ok especially once you bin the mudguard and giant indicators, and pretty quick

TTR250 - slow but I only commute a few miles each day, means I've got something to play in the mud with too.

My ccm, or my bandit(soon to be gixxer750) - or usually my car cos its only 2 miles to work and the short runs dont let the bikes heat up properly

DRZ 400S k3 cost me £2200 and is great for getting in and out of edinburgh traffic, and when i get out of town for the other half of my commute the bike is great in the twisties and sits at 75 no probs...

Plus it bright yellow!

Used to have an SV650S, fun bike out of town, sound lovely with a race can. Only problems for me is that you have to buy an extra mudguard thing for the front because water gets into the front plug, cos i'm tall the clip ons were very uncomfortable, turning isn't that rapid and it corroded like a barsteward (although that was partial neglect by me ).

TBH though, if you get a commuter and a tard you'll always use the tard because they are so much more fun for commuting on .

Here... did I see you yesterday around bruntsfield??? I pulled in at the bank cashline as you went past - I was on a yellow DRZ-SM.

625 SMC. For short commutes Bloody Perfect

It also copes easily with the commute from my birds to work which is 30 miles each way, only issue is if I take the A-roads when it feels a bit lacking. If I take the back road route its a bloody hoot:burnout:

Why? Cos they're more reliable than any Husky, KTM, Aprilia, 'Berg or even an MZ. And my commute is only about 25 metres.

They look almost as comfy as zanxcomfywear

When I can be arsed, my Supercomp, Duke, TDR or KDX. They're all perfectly acceptable to use as I only have a short London commute. The brakes on the KDX are quite scary though, I have to recalibrate my brain before and after using it.

Easy, My 625 SMC

LC4-based bikes are THE perfect commuter across a city like London bar none:

Great suspension for tackling shit potholed/speedbumped roads
Low down torque for pulling away from the hundred of traffic lights
Noisy, so they can hear you coming
Bright orange, so they can see you coming
Narrow bike with high bars, for squeezing between cars
Handguards to save you from wing mirror accidents
Most fun betweenb 10 and 60 mph - i.e. X-London road speeds
Survive winter salt (except the wheels)
Great handling if you lose it on diesel/ice/manhole cover, etc.
Cred with any other bikers from harley-riding Hells Angels to Supersportsbike twats to GS1200 Ewan Mcgregor wannabes to hardened couriers.

Monster 900 - crap turning circle
Hornet 600 - too revvy, never got out of 3rd gear
CBR600 - too much weight on wrists and too low to see over cars
GPZ900 - too fast
Z1R, Z650...er ooops
Tenere - Too big, too wide
GPz550 - embarrasing

My 660SMC with Akro! Great for my daily 50mile commute.

Always think Motards are slower for filtering due to the wider bars, best bike for me has been an old TRX850. Nice and narrow and lovely exhaust sound!
21/04/2006 at 10:36
BMW Adventure, but I take the alluminium panniers of as they cause havoc with wing mirrors when I am filtering...

BTW, why is it the only people that nod/wave to me in the mornings ride KTM's? (Milton Keynes)

Anything you want Merv, anything at all.

I've commuted in London on a Honda Superdream, Kawasakit GPZ750, Honda 400 Super 4, and even a 40 year old manual gearchange Vespa 125. The Duke is the best of all though, although more girls wanted lifts on the back of the Vespa.
