Logic would sa that a stop light is the only thing needed. Want to register the KX ASAP before the Fun Gestapo ban them.

You'll need a horn ( hooter ) of some kind - for a daytime MOT, don't think you need lights, except a brake light?

I think you can even get away with one of those 'parp parp' horns that you get for kids bikes - which of course will stay on the bike for at least 5 seconds after you leave the MOT station !!

you dont need a brake light!
you do need a constant tone horn,i.e an air horn(i use,rip-tied to h/bars) no speedo or no plate(but u do need them when using on the road).u need road legal tyres+a bs silencer(or a couple of quid sticker!) youve gone rite up in the cred stakes now! welcome to mental moto!

I used an 11 quid battery horn from Halfrauds. 9v battery 110db at 1metre.
Nice piece of kit with a slave button and about 45cm of cable
A nice loud "shrill" makes peds jump a bit too.

Correct.... no brake light\speedo.. and constant tone horn. That's it, do need a speedo for the road, which all seems a bit strange?

I thought that you did need a brake light, but it only needs to be switched off the front brake.

When i bought my 400, it had a daylight MOT
Single filament front running light
Single filament rear running light
no horn (I put one on)
No brake lights or switches.
The geezah I bought it off covered the lights with gaffer tape for the MOT and it passed no problems.

I spoke to my local co-operative MOT tester earlier and he said that it needs indicators IF they were fitted originally to the bike, a brake light and horn.

I can use the MC off the XR for a day (it has a light switch) and buy a horn from Halfords.

The first thing you need is a search under "daylight MOT".

Iv looked into this
you do NOT need ANY lights (brake otherwise)
you do NOT need indicators (wether originally had some or not)
battery horn needed
push bike speedo needed

Any lights fitted must be either taped up or removed if not working

A daylight mot is exactly the same to look at as a standard mot certificate

Karl, don't want to sound rude but if my MOT guy says I need a brakelight and a horn, then a brakelight and a horn he shall have.

End of.

Even IF a brake light wasn't needed, I doubt if my deflector shield would repel 38 tonnes of juggernaut up my butt because he didn't see me slow down
17/06/2003 at 20:51
thats a point.....he had me put a re/deflector on as there was no brake light,if your banging a battery/lighting kit on for the rear brake light why not put a front light on too and have a standard mot

I will put the whole lighting kit on there but need MOT to register the bike so I can then tinker at my leisure. Just worried about the Fun Gestapo that's all.

Zanx,
Have the new laws regarding registering
off roaders come into force yet?
If so, how`s this going to effect you getting
that rather attractive KX on the road?
