Ok I know its all been done before.....

Suffering a slight accident whilst changing the cambelt on my fiesta (bottom pulley slipped and its pinged valves in pots 3 & 4 ) I may be looking to scrap it and get a van

I want something that is as carlike as possible, big enough to get a bike in (2 would be an advantage), reliable and economic on fuel. Im not fussed about speed but would be nice to be able to hold a steady 70-75 fully loaded on the motorway. Home servicing would be an advantage aswell

Im pretty limited on budget and dont really want to go over 2k, I can get a '97 dispatch/expert for 1000-1200 quid and an '00 for jsut under 2k.

Being a van Im presuming theres no problems with high mileage over 100k but should I be looking for any major problems with these specific vans?

Failing that anyone wanna sell me a van?

Beers in advance

I had a 1.9d dispatch.

Bag of shite!

Needed new driveshafts, weakpoint on them, slow, noisey, flimsey......

In my opinion a toyota high ace is a better buy. Drives like a people carrier and about same size, very car like inside and very solid build quality. 2.4d is very economical, will do 95ph fully loaded, happier at 80mph though. Many shared components with the Hi Luxe which is a very very reliable strong vehicle. Quick off the mark too.

Haven't seen any that are rusty, will do lots of miles. Asian folk love them for taxis so you'll have no bother selling it.

My 2p

German or japanese, everything else is rubbish for vans and most cars.

Right now if Ive only got away with bending 4 valves then Im still looking at 300-400 quid to get it back on the road
I can get a 99 dispatch/expert/scudo for 1500, insurance is alittle more but oh well

Me mum says she can lend me the money

Bikes not been on the track cos of no transport, getting a van will solve this problem

edit: cheers will, going to look around now

my high ace was £1800 with full toyota history and 100k on clock. They seem to get bought pretty quickly for taxis. It has no rust and is spotless, looks 10 years younger than it is. I do my own servicing too and found an oil change a piece of piss. Parts are cheap. Takes 5.5 litres of oil at a service.

I spent ages looking. Transporters were all well overpriced and high mileage. I can get 2 bikes and all kit in van and pull 12 foot caravan and its quite happy at speed limit and will do more.

If you can buy newer version it has DiD motor that puts out another 20hp, see them doing 100mph regular.

Had a Scudo (same thing) non-turbo so very slow but gets to around 90 eventually. Didn't spend a penny on it in over 40K miles apart from service and sold it with 120K miles still going strong. Big enough for 2 bikes, twin sliding doors makes easy loading, 3 seats and no longer than a people carrier. Well within your budget but a 2.0 Hdi/Jtd motor is much much nicer to drive. Get a Trafic if you have the cash. Best value van and nice to drive and won't $hit itself like a Vito

Size is an issue with parking aswell

They dont do a mid sized van though, unless you can get a bike in the back of a kangoo

Anything smaller than a "Transit SWB" is not a van, its a car with the side windows missing, and mostly useless as both a car and a van ?

Trafic is the only van worth looking at. VWs are to expensive and basic so are Mercs and they fall apart. A Belingo/Kangroo will do at a real squeeze (no pass seat). Just go and get a Scudo/Dispatch/Expert for 1500 quid and don't drive it too hard. The motor will take it but your ears won't
I reckon they are the best smaller van out there for the money and you can seat 3 in the front.

Really ??? Whats the Traffic then ???

When I say mid sized I mean like the expert/dispatch/scudo, isnt the traffic transit size?

Citroen Dispatch, cracking van, goes like the clappers, put 40,000 hard white van man type miles on my work one not one issue engine wise.
However as a passenger vehicle for back seat passengers, utter shite.
The windows on the side sliding doors have such an issue with wind noise its unbelievable at around 60mph upwards, cant even hear the radio unless its up so loud your ears are bleeding.
Ive gone for a vito this time purely down to that noise issue but seems they'v cured the problem on the newer dispatches so when it comes to change time it'll be another dispatch for me

I have no intention of carrying passengers in the back, thats going to be for bikes or sleeping in

How old is your fiesta? You shouldn't be paying anywhere near that for a complete replacement engine if its the sort of vintage I think it is.

They've got a bad reputation for being very fragile. The only one we had in the yard was an '03 one we bought for buttons cos the engine had lunched itself, and a complete replacement motor was near-impossible to find at the time, cos so many others were doing exactly the same thing.

French motors are great.... as long as they're still under warranty. If not.... avoid like the plague IMHO.

I'd look at a Nissan Vanette Cargo, or a Hiace if you wanted something a bit bigger....
