I have a 9 ltr tank on my 625 smc and am getting about 50 miles before having to switch to reserve. Is this normal or is there some way i can get a bit more milage before switching to reserve.
Can i buy a larger tank?

Dunno about them KTMs, but I get about 45 miles to reserve out of the 10L tank on my XR650R.

You'll be able to get a bigger tank though. I got a 16L IMS one for the XR, which gives me about 100 miles to reserve now.

I think i read on here some where, something about cutting the main fuel tube in the tank and making it shorter. Has anyone done anything like this to their bike?

Just had butchers through the "Power Parts" catalogue i got when i bought the bike and they do an 18L for LC4, so should fit my bike. Hope so by the time i've ridden out of town to the twisty country B roads and had a little Blast :burnout: i've got to ride back to town to fill up again.

Not me. Interesting idea though.

Might have to do some experiments on how far I can go on reserve at the mo' (with a can of fuel in a rucksack or something ) to see if it'd be worth making the reserve bit smaller......

I saw on the Acerbis site (www.acerbis.com) that they do extra fuel tanks for alsorts of bikes, including KTM's. Even tanks which take the place of your front numberplate and otherss which sit on top of your rear mudguard

Not sure whether they are road legal though

I just got 132 miles out of mine before the fuel light came on (leaving 2 litres). So that would leave me about 14 miles to find a Petrol station

What size is your tank?
When i bought my bike the guy said i should get about 80 miles including the reserve. That leaves me 30 miles on reserve which is too much i think.
The replacement tank in catalogue is 18L so should get 160 miles.
I just hope it fits my bike and it's available.
The piss poor tank range really lets the bike down.

You can get larger tanks, but I think you need a new seat to go with it. Sorry, I'm new to KTMs, it'll take me a month or so before I know absolutley everything, but know it I will!
Normally, cutting the supply tubes on a tank will give you longer range, but only on main, you just cut into the reservse section, IYSWIM?

20 litres including 2 litres after fuel light comes on.

Fuel injection don't like the last 2 litres though, runs like a single

It sounds roughly right, I think that's what my Supercomp does to a tank. At least that's what I remember from last time it moved, some time in the spring.

I had the 18L tank on my LC4 It fits on no problem no seat change required

I got rid as;

a) It makes an already lardy bike lardier still

b) The extra weight bends/mullers the sidestand bracket

c) My ass range is smaller than the tank range

Me?

my KTM duke 1 (4th edition) has a 12ltr tank and i get between 50 and 70miles before reserve....reserve is holds about the same as a damp wrag.
not sure exactly what i could get out of it if i took it nice and steady, when i sling a leg over the beast i can't help but have fun.

Is that right. Well thats good news. I read recently that with the larger tank you had to fit the different seat. Perhaps that was for a larger than 18L tank?
Thinking about it, you're right the tank range is handy for forcing you to stop and give yer arse a rest. Riding home from Lydd yesterday I got to 93 miles and then stopped for juice. I hadn't gone onto reserve but my arse was so sore I couldn't stand it any longer. It took 7.46 ltrs. That makes it about 60 odd miles to the galllon I think. Thats about the only good thing about running it in!
What does the standard tank hold then?
Oh and IYSWIM = "If you see what I mean".

I got 137 miles out of 3.63 gallons.
I was quite impressed given that it is the first tank of fuel and taking into account the ultimate performance of the bike once run in, my riding hasn't been exactly sedentiary

Then again it does have 2 cylinders to feed

Why not try fitting the standard LC4 tank which takes 12L I think, and gets me about 70km before reserve and another safe 10-15 miles after that.

That tank range seems to match my arse-range perfectly.

Seen plenty on ebay - and I think NCMReynolds might have one or two knocking about.
