I`m after a supermoto and need info and advice. I`ve been riding for years and i need a new fix.

what`s the best bike for commuting ( only a few miles ) ,  weekend blasts and some trackdays. i need something reliable because i already own a money pit of a ducati. I have a lead on a husaberg 650 but can`t find any info on maintenance or running costs etc.

any help would be much appreciated

Suzuki DRZ400SM and do not listen to anyone else sprouting monkey about how great their bikes are, it's the best one you can ever own.

Caviat: It is slow in stock form, it is boring in stock form, it is cheap in stock form but easy to modify and spend money on. Just go for it.

I came from the same direction, having had a Ducati that was always broken.

Got an SM610S, which is basically a road moto that can do a *bit* of proper supermoto, and it has been a gas.

Husqvarna were made by Agusta / Cagiva up until recently who also made Ducati until American investors bought Ducati in the late 90s or something. Which means they tend to suffer from some of the same problems as Ducatis. (cue King Karls broken crank image no doubt)(if he can still post it with this new site)

KTM and Aprilia seem to rock. There is an article in either the most recent or the previous Supermoto magazine about the Husaberg 650. I think Motofox (?) can probably sort you out with details of how to get one.

I ride a 70 mile round trip to work on mine in the summer including 10 miles of A1 in each direction and she copes with it fine but you certianly wouldn't want to go any further on it.

Some of the proper 'motos look like they are great on track but would be implements of torture for any kind of distance.

Taken mine on a couple of dirt / tarmac track days now and am kind of wondering if i shouldn't have gotten something a little lighter though. But she still does it and does it with style!

Which is why you've still got one then

To be honest any of the road going Motards should fit your bill, with the 610 Husky looking king of the hill at the moment, but KTM's new 690SMC might change that who knows?

I had a KTM Duke II for 18 months and a KTM 625SMC for the same period. Neither gave me the slightest bit of trouble. For the last 3 months with the SMC I was commuting a 60mile round trip to work and back and although not the best choice of bike for the task it handled it no problem.

Roads tard you might want to look into

KTM LC4, SMC (625,660,690)

Husky 610/510/450 (last 2 bit more hard edged than the 610)

DRZ

XTX660

There are plenty more thou so have a search around in the forum.

As for the Berg, nice bike but are maintaince heavy compared to the above

Husky 610 sounds about right to me, or if you're a big bloke a KTM LC4
