Making a supermoto

Hi, 1st post but been browsing for a few weeks, Had 3 Bandits previously and want to get onto a Motard next

I quite fancy the idea of converting an Off Road bike into a street legal motard...

Or converting something like a DRZ or XT600 into one.

Sorry if these questions have been asked before - I did search and found some answers.

What is the process for preparing and registering/mot'ing an off-road bike?

EDIT - Just found this www.visordown.com/forums/showthread.php?t=321651&highlight=road+legal

Can I just get 17inch rims and have the original hubs/speedo/discs re-laced onto the new rim?

Assuming I can are there any wheel builders around the essex area and how much do it generally cost?

Are there any bikes that are best avoided - ie big singles, 2 strokes, kickers etc

Thanks in advance

drz are the best to start with, there are loads of road reg models out there. when you get them post on here you need wheels, i wouldn't build them on your hubs ase you could sell your wheels and it would work out cheaper. there will be loads of offers

Morning!!!!

Just buy a bike that is allready converted.

Alot of peeps on here know each other from one thing or another(northern monkeee thing) so most and i state most look after there pride and joy,so buying a steed off the forum would be better then fleabay or a trade mag.

What ya after in a moto and we can see what bikes would suit ya

thanks for the prompt replies...

looking for a supermoto style bike that I can use on the road for pi$$ing about and maybe going to and from work occasionally.

i have recently restored an old suzuki x7 and am now looking for something else to tinker with - hence the converting aspect - either from off-road to road legal and then to sm or from road legal to sm

not fussed about make - or engine size really although i weigh a fair bit, so maybe 400cc or bigger would at least be able to do 30mph with me on the back

only want to spend around 1500 quid on the bike and will then have some spare money for bolt on goodies

cheers

are there any mx bikes that i should avoid - can't get SM plastics for etc?

are there any mx bikes that i definitely can't register for the road?

will i end up with a Q plate?

thanks in advance
