KTM DUKE II Tyre doesn't fit!!!

Hello,

Just signed up to this forum having used it as a resource for a long time.

I have a KTM Duke II 06 that needed a new rear tyre, I bought a hardly used Dunlop qualifier from ebay 160/60 R17, got it put on the loose wheel to replace the old square tyre on there, also a 160/60 R17 but can't remember the make..... reseated the wheel and the tyre binds on the swingarm, chain and chain guard, to the point where I can hardly even free wheel the bike!
Has anyone had this before? Is it the Dunlop is just a bit wider than other 160's?? Have I just bought a freak tyre and that is why it was on ebay???
Any advice on tyre sizes, extra wide brands to avoid etc would be greatly received, thanks

Yep some brands 160's are wider than others...

My CCM is usually shod with a Pirelli 150, but the Goldspeeds / Maxis Preesa 160's are narrow and fit... and other 160's do fit but with a little chain rub, not the sort of interferance you mention, and i think the KTM Dukes are usually a 160 anyway with a little more room - some time people move the offset on spoked wheels, but the Dukes (like the Std CCM R30s) are on Mag wheels if im correct...

Is it just rubbing one side? worth re-checking you have the correct spacers on the correct sides, and some spacers are of the top-hat type so need to be the right way round etc... on the CCM's it can be a bit of an arse getting a wide tyred wheel in with the rear brake bracket...

Give it a re-fit and see...

Thanks Paul,
Yes Dukes come with 160's OE and the handbook says 160's too. My Dunlop is rubbing both side of the swingarm so is just too wide! To be honest I didn't look at the clearance of the tyre that came off so I don't know what is normal on a "normal" 160.
Just wondered if anyone had had the same with a Dunlop (I have the matching one on the front so would like to stick to this brand really, plus I like Dunlops, plus they're british!), which 160's definitely fit or what differences I would notice going to a 150.
Cheers
