Jumps

Following on from a comment on the Trax thread, how high do you reckon we can jump our bikes before something (particularly the rider) snaps?

I've been doing little 4 foot high jumps so far, but am curious if I set up a ramp whether the bike is up to it.

In xXx, they seem to use something suspiciously similar to my bike to jump the shed in the columbian jungle, which would appear to be a jump of around 40 feet, albeit landing on a landing ramp.

Are the ones used in supercross set up hugely different?

I'm not exactly planning on hitting 20 feet, mind, but would imagine that if I find somewhere to do it, 10 feet would be doable.

Any ideas?

take a look at this bike in SM trim...is it high enough for you?

Blody hell! yes, that's high enough.

Since I've reverted to biking just for giggles, on a bike that's patently unsuited to much road use, I've started wanting to treat it liek I did BMXs when I was young. I only had one for a fortnight before it was stolen, so there's an itch that needs to be scratched.

Which track is crazy enough to make you take off like that?

Find a table-top style jump where you land on a down slope, you can get really smooth landings from serious jumps.

Try a local moto x practise track (avoid sandy tracks or you'll end up spending the rest of your life trying to get rid of the sand)
